Fury was getting knocked down by Cunningham at Andersons age. A few years younger than Anderson, Fury was self uppercutting himself. He still has time to develop.
To say the guy is shlt is nonsense. But correct in that, he's over hyped and overrated. Which means that actually, he does need a couple of years to be good. Don't be too quick to dismiss him. Look at Wilder. He's essentially dreadful, and yet with careful matchmaking they gave him a lucrative career. It's ok to assess but too early to judge.Comment

Name any fighter you want and I'll pick apart their resumes like that, anybody...
Um the current heavyweights are weak kid. We have overrated Usyk a blown up cruiser weight who can only land 20 percent of his punches against stationary targets like Joshua. We have no skilled Deontay Wilder who power is legendary because he knocked out a 50 year old Ortiz. Then we have the hype job of the century in Tyson Fury who is the greatest fighter ever because he beat a old Wladimir Klitschko by running ( If Fury beating a old Wlad makes him great then wouldn't that meant Ross Purritty, Lamon Brewster, and Corrie Sanders are even great for beating a prime Wlad) and Fury beat no skilled Deontay Wilder. The current heavyweights are a joke so Anderson doesn't have to wait for anything.Comment

If Anderson was around back then, he'd be lost in a sea of American heavyweight prospects and not be perceived as anything special. Sure, he'd have his fans, but lots of critics also, and no special hype and attention, as there were plenty of prospects around. Now there's so little out there. A historically American dominated division, has essentially been dominated since 2004 by Ukrainian and British fighters. Wilder is the only guy to get amongst that. And he too was over hyped and overrated. But a lucrative career was created with careful matchmaking for him. It's no wonder the American media are all over Anderson, as they crave that next genuine star, and a return to American dominance. But Anderson needs time to breathe and mature. He has much to learn and should be given time to do so. He may yet prove to be something special, or credible at least. Time will tell.Anderson is very good, but is he the next great American heavyweight after Tyson, Bowe and Holyfield? Nope.
Wilder would probably knock him out, but would be interesting.
The media do hype up new prospects quickly, but shouldn't hype too soon when they're beating tomato cans. One can see properly once they step up in competition.
Having said that, you can see a truly all-time great even when they've had only a few fights, like Louis, Ali, Mike Tyson and Lewis, to name some great heavyweights.Last edited by Rodtang; 07-02-2023, 05:05 AM.Comment

So your saying Anderson is better than the Joshua that beat Martin?Comment

People are too quick to say fighters are overhyped today
Hagler lost to 2 fringe contenders before he he was a champion. Imagine if he was around today, he would have been labelled as an exposed hype job and thrown on the scrap heap.
Ali got put on ***** Street by Henry Coopey and saved by his own corners dirty tricks, that was before he ever won a world title. He would be considered exposed today.
Its ****** really.
That said, Anderson definitely needs to work on a lot. His defence is really terrible at times. He did show he can take a shot and recover without freezing or panicking too much and that's always great to have but against better fighters, you can't get hit like that too often like he does because you won't even get a chance to recover.
but maybe he needs a fight like this one to highlight what he really needs work on. If he doesn't work on these obvious flaws then he's gonna get splattered but that's up to him now. If he's serious about progressing then this Martin fight will be more beneficial than walking through someone in 2 rounds.

Your right. Although I never use age as a barometer. It suggests that being younger means that they can be fantastic when they're older, and there's never any guarantee of that. You can only truly judge by the quality of opposition. Age only gives us an idea of potential longevity in their career.Comment

Yeah because if you don't win by KO every single fight you are a hype job. Tyson Fury couldn't knock out Otto Wallin, Francesco Pianeta, Zach Page, Rich Power, Tomas Mrazek, John McDermott in their first fight or Derek Chisora in their first fight. So I guess Tyson Fury is a hype job to right?Comment
