People are too quick to say fighters are overhyped today

Hagler lost to 2 fringe contenders before he he was a champion. Imagine if he was around today, he would have been labelled as an exposed hype job and thrown on the scrap heap.

Ali got put on ***** Street by Henry Coopey and saved by his own corners dirty tricks, that was before he ever won a world title. He would be considered exposed today.

Its ****** really.

That said, Anderson definitely needs to work on a lot. His defence is really terrible at times. He did show he can take a shot and recover without freezing or panicking too much and that's always great to have but against better fighters, you can't get hit like that too often like he does because you won't even get a chance to recover.

but maybe he needs a fight like this one to highlight what he really needs work on. If he doesn't work on these obvious flaws then he's gonna get splattered but that's up to him now. If he's serious about progressing then this Martin fight will be more beneficial than walking through someone in 2 rounds.

Most top fighters are over hyped though. Anderson is clearly. People have him being the next big thing when he's far from it. But that doesn't mean that, in time, and with the right amount of learning and progression, that he can't be. I'm not saying he will be. Nor am I saying he won't be. He needs to follow his learning curve. Maybe he'll live up to the hype. But it's over the top for sure. Although I think it's simmering down a little bit. The problem with hype is that people then want to see failure. I don't understand that. The division clearly needs talent. And talent that can mature into quality. People should respect that Anderson is a work in progress, that still has much to do. But he is over hyped for sure.

Anderson looks ok but if they had given him the original opponent its clear he would have got beat. We got a bit spoiled by Aj's early record where he blasted through these opooents and went straight for a belt.

Maybe with a Wilder style buildup about 30 odd fights before he fought someone with a pulse he can get there and keep him with home advantage in the States an away day would be fatal at this point.

Anderson is good at measuring range when it comes to throwing offense, but defensively he's a knockout waiting to happen. Goes straight back with his head not enough side to side slipping punches. I dont think thats something he will ever learn. If he was facing a decent southpaw like ortiz or zheng he would of been knocked out.

Look, we all know that Jared needs a lot of work, but today's Charles Martin is a better fighter than the green Martin who fought AJ.

He's had 7 years of experience since then... plenty of hard fights, training camps, and sparring sessions.

He wasn't then and isn't now.

Lol the current heavyweight division is weak. Canelo is a steroid cheat. Most people here are fanboys of certain fighters. On that same note most people don't know what a hype job is or what a bum is.
