Yeah to call losing to Dmitry Bivol humiliating is a stretch. The dude fought not only a great light heavyweight, but a great former amateur boxer as well. I think I was the only one on my whole family that predicted that Bivol would beat Canelo.

Besides, there is not one single other person in the 168 lbs division would go up in weight to do that, I mean hell they wouldn’t even face each other in their own division because they were all holding out on getting picked for the Canelo sweepstakes. So to say it was humiliating, just doesn’t make sense.

I called it humiliation since it put back Nelo to his proper place @ 168 where he belongs... It put a stop to Nelo''s grand plan of fighting cruiserweights and heavyweights (tho tried to fight a cruiser lately but @ 180 catchweight and with rehydation clause which is hilarious ) instead of fighting his deserving challengers @ 168 like Bivol, Benavidez and Morell....

It's general knowledge that Nelo's offer to Bivol is @ 175 Same Terms and of course it didn't go forward or become official because Bivol rejected that offer.

I don't get the hate. Canelo went up in weight and challenge a proven undefeated bigger fighter. I just don't know where is the shame in that.

There’s no shame in moving up and fighting a top guy. Course fighters have moved up to fight Canelo and he’s gotten accolades for winning too.
I think maybe there was some arrogance proven though. Canelo had a small lip around his waistband for that fight. The pace was more than he is used to. Bivol was the one throwing the extra punches on the combos. Canelo got too cute with his defence. He really thought all his usual moves would power him through. He fell in love with too many things about himself. He missed with the right hand to the body all night. He never adapted and was the one tired in the last rounds.
My dad and brother said Bivol would win for years. I wasn’t so sure, and expected Canelo to win by points even if it was close. I wasn’t that studied on Bivol though.

I kept on telling people that Bivol has never gone to second gear and we didn't know how he was going to do when pushed. Canelo pushed him a bit and when he went to that second gear he dominated. Canelo did win some rounds but Bivol adjusted nicely to it. Bivol doesn't have a lot of power but his punch selection and connection keeps fighters at bay.
