Comments Thread For: Spence: We Give 3 Percent To These [Sanctioning] Organizations; What Are They Doing With It?

NEW YORK - Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. obviously believe becoming boxing's first fully unified welterweight champion of the four-belt era is important enough to pay significant portions of their purses to the IBF, WBA, WBC and WBO next month.

This was the best thing from the press conference. You don’t see too many guys in the peak of their career slagging the title orgs, let alone a unified champ.

They just need a countrywide boxing body to sort it all out and have one world title per division. Licenses for boxers and fees from promoters to stage matches would be enough to fund a body. You don’t need hundreds of millions for what is basically admin. And they could also unify rules across all the states. Of course you’ll still get crooks within that body but at least they’ll be more accountable than private organisations based outside the country.

Thats one very fair comment. 3% of all those hundreds of millions & when a boxer dies or gets badly damaged, blind or in a wheelchair or left with life changing brain trauma, where are those MoFos? A - nowhere to be seen. Errol, you damn right my man.

But, in fairness, if those countless 3%s didn't go into a Syechelles Company, itself controlled by trustees in Jersey, how would the administrators of the boxing organisations keep themselves in 'those little luxuries that are, to the man of refinement, so much more necessary than necessities' (not my line, PG Wodehouse's), like limousines, condos, escorts etc.

yeah where were they for jermaine taylor when he got CTE and was in and out of legal trouble? They were happy to take 3% when he was champ. Jermaine taylor was squeeky clean in his youth, he didnt have legal problems until the end of his career after taking all those punches, complete personality change for him. Did the ABC orgs jump in and help him then?

One of these days the boxing world fans promoters, fighters, officials, etc will all wake up to the fraud the sanctioning bodies with these belts really are. They mean absolutely nothing. It's so diluted that it doesn't mean anything to be champion anymore. It would only mean something if there was one belt and one belt alone. No BS super champ regular champ diamond champ all that. Just look at Devin Haney at 135 who has ALL the belts yet is generally seen as the third or even fourth best in the division. How does this make any sense? Take that with how much money they get for absolutely doing nothing and you can see the writing on the wall. Their days are numbered. Just have to wait for everyone to get on the same page. It would be great to see a moratorium from ALL fighters to simply refuse to pay the sanctioning fee. Not even 1% the fans will see the winner as the champ and that is what matters. If they all did it at the same time it would eliminate their BS influence from our sport.
