I can understand where Suliaman's sentiments lie, but sanctioning an individual is a world apart from sanctioning a government or country for its misdeeds. By way of example, Russia has been forbidden from being represented in the Olympics because of government violations of Olympic rules, yet individual Russian athletes were allowed to compete under the Olympic banner. Notwithstanding Russia, destroying hospitals and schools, killing children and innocent people people should not be punished for the sins of their governments.

"it’s very unfortunate, he (Bivol) is a victim in this situation, but this is something that neither he nor we can control."
There's no reason to punish civilians for a war that they have nothing to do with and, as he said, can not control. It's also hypocritical and sets a bad precedent. I don't recall the WBC not sanctioning fights with U.S. fighters while the U.S. govt/military was killing hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians, etc.Comment

Every top Russian athlete that is sanctioned, punishes ***** and he will feel it!
firthermore, most top Russian sports people are under state run doping regimens, so it’s good to see them sanctioned!Comment

So fuck it, make the fight without We Be Crooks' belt and it'd still decide who's #1 at LHW. Say Bivol won, but didn't win that title, surely he'd still be universally considered undisputed champ? Haney/Lopez/Lomachenko was muddy with that whole Franchise/not undisputed thing, but this wouldn't be the same.Comment

Please explain how ***** will feel it. He's got slightly bigger fish to fry at the moment.Comment

Sulaiman says all of this about Russian athletes but I bet if someone makes a personal donation to him then he would overlook his policies. I bet that Suliaman would go to the highest bidder. Politics and sports do not and should not go together.Comment

Oh really? How about every bad thing that you do, we punish your mom, dad, and everyone you care about. If you like a pro sports team, we stop them from playing also, etc. After all, you'd feel it. Seems fair.Comment
