  • Comments Thread For: Beterbiev's Trainer Concerned, Views Callum Smith as Complex Fight: He's Best Boxer We've Faced

Marc Ramsey, head trainer for WBC, IBF, WBO light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev, expects a very dangerous task when they face mandatory challenger Callum Smith on August 19 at the Videotron Center in Quebec.

Gvodzyk is the best beterbiev has faced but i understand trainer has to motivate his fighter, especially encourage him to be careful vs a big puncher like smith, and promote the fight

        Hahaha exactly

see around here Smith will be a top win if/win Beterbiev beats him he will get praised 100% for that fight...

But when canelo beat Smith he was just a "bum" nothing else.

Like I always say different standards here for certain guys. Lol

Yes, perhaps an indication that yarde wasn't prepared for adequately?

If that's so, it's because they haven't the balls to face Bivol yet.

Brother, you're starting to slip... wrote "canelo" with a lowercase c

Seriously, though... Smith is not a "bum", and he could have done much more against Canelo had he only committed himself instead of just picking up the check. However his resume shows that he doesn't belong to the very elite, his best win being the knockout over an already damaged George Groves. Should he defeat Beterbiev, that would be a major upset.

I guess you do not read a ton of stories associated with Beterbiev. Go back and read the comment section of when this fight was made official. Everyone was saying it was a Beterbiev walk over. Most saying an Artut win by the mid-rounds. I personally said Smith offers nothing that Yarde didn't, and Yarde had several advantages including an adoring home crowd advantage that Smith does not. So, no, not a single solitary Beterbiev fan thinks Smith is a legit threat unless Beterbiev just does not care tot train for him.

I do not know the why there is such a need to defend Canelo. He is a first ballot Hall of Fame boxer if he retires tomorrow. Even if Beterbiev walks through his punches, hunts him down and ends this fight within 5 rounds (what I expect to happen), it will mean absolutely nothing as compared to Canelo.

He is not concerned, he is just motivating his guy and promoting the fight.

A Eurobum when Canelo fights him, but when Beterbiev fights him he is the best boxer they have faced.
