Unpopular opinion: Speaking literally, Oleksandr Usyk and Tank Davis are the best fighters pound for pound

Before you kill me, let me explain…

First of all, I know Usyk is correctly ranked as #1, which I agree with.

I think that Tank Davis is the best fighter in terms of pound for pound in a literal sense, at least #2. Like same day weigh in, both fighters are the same height and same weight. So that’s Tank Davis fighting a guy weighing 140-147lbs on fight night, 5’6” in height, 68” reach.

Tank Davis would be the best with those terms. If he’s strictly fighting other opponents his exact size. Which I think P4P actually means. It doesn’t mean, the best fighter on the planet even if they’re fighting a 20lb heavier fighter.

I think Tank Davis shares that spot with Usyk. 1A and 1B.

Usyk vs Tank, same weight, same height, would be the best fight right now.

I think if Tank were Crawford’s size, he’d KO him. He’d KO or UD, either closely 7-5 or widely 9-3, any other fighter not named Usyk. He’d absolutely KO Haney.

The only people that deserve to be talked about as P4P top 5 right now are Usyk Tank Crawford Inoue.

If Loma got the decision last weekend he should have been up there too.

not sure about Tank because his resume isn’t too great still needs a top win but he’s so short for his weight class and he’s wrecking guys.

There’s only one blemish on Tank’s career so far, and that is that he didn’t fight prime Loma. But that was Mayweather’s fault imo.

Usyk is actually the opposite of Tank. Usyk fights at a disadvantage to his opponents at HW. Tank won't fight anyone where he is at any disadvantage whatsoever. Usyk fought Joshua, tried to get a fight with Fury. Tank fought Ryan and even Barrios with an a-side weight clause in place.

Not saying Tank isn't quite possibly a p4p talent but where are the fights?

You think Tank is the best P4P? I definitely have to disagree. He arguably lost to Cruz. Since that fight, he fought Rolly (who'd lost to Marinez if we're being honest), Rolly how arguably should have lost his last fight. Then you have Ryan Garcia, who is more of a social media influencer now than a fighter. Guy hasn't looked good since he was with Reynoso. He trains three days a week for his fights. Both of those guys are still in that prospect stage, despite Rolly having a title.

I think Tank is good, but he can't possibly be considered P4P after fighting the competition he's had, plus his questionable win over Cruz. Cruz was the only guy who's a real fighter and not some little guy coming up to fight Tank. I thought Barrios was a good win until I found out about the rehydration clause.

          Have to disagree there.

Tanks best win is still a prime Pedraza... don't get me wrong I think the kid is a remarkable talent but he needs to actually beat a few more proven and meaningful world champions to be up there with Usyk, Inoue and Crawford for me.

Tank's body of work is not enough, by picking him you are going with too much recency bias.

the p4p list should def have a balance of recent wins but overall historical achievements.

TC has Ko'd his last 10 opponents, and there are some quality wins in that run and overall a higher level than Tank imo.

The same could be said of Usyk, Canelo, Inoue, Fury, Spence.

Tank has yet to go in with a seasoned prime, elite fighter apart from Leo Santa Cruz, who was 2 divisions smaller but i still give Tank credit for that.
                .
He is too unproven to be considered top2, and my gut feeling tells me he'll get beat if he ups the competition on a more regular basis

Tank is small in stature but he still looks dehydrated at weigh-ins. He lost his belt at 130 on the scales and he took a fight at 140 voluntarily because he's more comfortable there. If it was same day weigh-ins (which it should be) he would probably still move up two weight classes like most fighters under 147lbs.
