Comments Thread For: Arum on Tank-Stevenson: To Put Tremendous Guarantees To Make a Couple of Dollars - Why Do It?

Bob Arum has major reservations about a potential "super fight" pitting Gervonta 'Tank' Davis against Shakur Stevenson--and apparently his thinking has little to do with corporate politics.

Arum is the king for not making fights due to the negotiations excuse. Difficult to deal with because he is so greedy. That whole losing money on Crawford is his fault for having a plan that did not involve any other fighters but the ones he had in house.

makes sense bob, demanding cash thats not there is not good business, everyone gets paid and if the fight does well the fighters get more, some fighters dont get this tho

this should not be an excuse for anyone to get out of a fight either, if 2 guys want the fight they will go through the numbers, how many ppv etc are needed, accept a sensible guarantee & if the fight does well they make a lot of money

That's the new business model. Well it's not really a new business model because it was the standard bearer before the advent of closed circuit, cable and Pay per view television. That was when fighters started demanding huge guarantees.

Don King was the central figure in boxing for shelling out these huge guaranteed contracts to fighters like Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, Joe Frazier, Sugar Ray Leonard, Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield.

Shakur Stevenson vs Gervonta Davis is not a box office Draw. Top Rank has to do a better job of building Stevenson's brand; The same way Floyd Mayweather Promotions was successful in help building Gervonta "Tank" Davis' brand.

If Shakur wins all the belts, its going to be a string of in house TR fights.

                  That will suck.

Did you listen or comprehend what the man said? He simply stated why the fight will be difficult to make. All depends on what formulas the fighters agree on.
