Comments Thread For: De La Hoya Says Ryan Garcia Should Have Taken Tune-up Fight Ahead of Gervonta Davis Showdown

Oscar De La Hoya believes Ryan Garcia's woes in the ring against Gervonta Davis were in part the product of a decision made many months earlier. The head of Golden Boy Promotions stated in a recent interview that it was a mistake for his charge to forgo plans to take up a tune-up level bout ahead of his fight with Baltimore's Davis last month.

Ryan made serious money in this fight guys. He’s good to go. PPV splint was massive. I’m not fully convinced that Gesta wouldn’t have derailed this whole thing if Ryan woulda fought him.a lot of risk there. I’m no Ryan fan, but he’s still in a good position.

That is reasonable for a promoter to say about one of his fighters. I think 10 tune up fights would not have gotten Ryan to a level the beats tank. But who knows? I want Ryan vs Rolly, that should be a nice get back fight for Ryan. Let's see it

          Good ?
          He’s in a great position
I was made to be a believer , before the Tank fight but realistically speaking , unfortunately Cryin’Ryan is not on that level
Not even close to that level
Now if we can just get Stank to fight the top tier but that seems like wishful thinking

"it’s interesting, when a fighter loses, he fires everyone. That’s just the way it is. I remember when I first lost, I fired everybody but I didn’t blame myself.”

I've often wondered this myself. I've seen trends over the years that when a fighter starts doing that, their peak is over and they start declining

The way he fought against tank any decent opponent would have beaten him

                  That’s beyond obvious..

Ryan would have realized fighting at 136 with no rehydration was not feasible.

A tune up wouldn't have made much of a difference. Tank is just on another level to Ryan.
