I didn't know that so many were going to get triggered with my first post. The same thing happened when Canelo challenged Bivol. I said I have never seen Bivol go on second gear and go to another level, he was bigger and skilled. Got a lot of flak for that and look what happened.
I will continue to say if Canelo fights Benavides and wins they will call Benavides a bum. I stated numerous time that I want to see that fight and no more than ever with that good win against Plant.
Canelo has to actually fight Benavidez for that to happen. So far he has shown no interest and deserves every bit of criticism for it. If he has "haters," so what. All fighters do.
Marquez fought guys in their prime, not guys with names who were over the hill like Shane Mosley, Cotto, Kovalev, smaller guys moving up, like Amir Khan, Euro bums like Avni Yildirim, and Rocky Fielding, slow moving weed smoking Mexicans like Chavez jr and Alfredo Angulo, he tried to wait GGG out until he aged enough then ran like hell from him in the 1st fight, got outboxed and got his eye busted wide open in the 2nd fight, now he's fighting other Euro trash like John Ryder. Under close examination, his whole record has an asterisk. It shows a pattern of carefully selecting fighters based on a perceived weakness of either age or being past their prime, being light punchers or smaller guys moving up, or being Euro bums. The few times he stepped to a real dude in their primes, he lost or had lots of problems- Trout, Lara, Golovkin I, Mayweather, Bivol. Then when u throw in the fact that he used drugs to cheat, and got caught with Clenbuterol in his system, and how he blatantly ducked Boo Boo Andrade, Charlo, and Benavidez for well over a decade, he's not at the top of Mexican boxing history. All the other Mexicans were willing to face anyone and were never known to try and avoid other top guys for years and years. And they weren't juicing. They simply fought and did their best naturally without drugs. For these reasons, Canelo might not even be top 20 Mexicans of all time. I can't put him above Salvador Sanchez, JC Chavez Sr, Ruben Olivarez, Chiquita Gonzalez, Barrera, Erik Morales, JM Marquez, Gilberto Roman, Ricardo Lopez, Kid Azteca, Orlando Canizales, Raton Macias, Miguel Canto, Rodolfo Casanova, Carlos Zarate, Vicente Saldivar, Manuel Ortiz, Carlos Palomino, Sugar Ramos, Mando Ramos, Lupe Pintor, Jose Luis Ramirez, Bobby Chacon, etc. Win lose or draw, these men fought whoever would fight them. They weren't divas on some A- side, B-side BS, weight bullies, etc So u have to rate them higher. Greatness in boxing isn't ever based on how much money a fighter made
Canelo cheerleaders never use context when talking abut his resume. They just use the names.
