  • Pacquiao Could Retire Without Mayweather, Says Roach

If Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. are unable to reach a deal for a 2010 clash, Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach says the Filipino fighter should retire and walk away from boxing while he's still on top. He admits that he would rather have Pacquiao beat Miguel Cotto to capture the WBO welterweight title on November 14 - and then beat Mayweather in a career-ending fight. [details]

      Fair play.

If he beats Cotto then I would have no problem with the Pac man retiring.

He's fighting above his weight even at 145 so has nothing left to prove IMO.

do you record everything that mofo says? lol, if he wants his biggest payday, then he should fight floyd. Pacman is not doing any of this trash talking, it's all roach, so i don't know why people keep saying pacman is ducking floyd.

Hahaha if he beats Cotto and doesnt fight Mayweather...then he is ducking him without a doubt. They know Mayweather will make Pac look silly and average. But the question is are they willing to risk that for a HUGE payday? I say why not...Pac is already a HOF fighter..but this is a fight that BOTH of them need to define their respective legacy's. If Mayweather retires without fighting Pac then he is ducking him. This fight needs to happen to get this board back to Normal....lol

When he beats Cotto by brutal KO or fight stoppage, he should not even think of retiring without fighting Money, first.

This seems like blatant ducking. Mayweather was #1, and Pac only got to that slot by FMJ retiring. May comes back, and many people have restored Floyd to the #1 spot.

To prove he is #1, Pacquiao would have to beat Mayweather. Wins over Diaz/Delahoya/Hatton are not ATG-ish. And Roach himself has said that Cotto is weathered.

I must say that I cannot stand Floyd. He is arrogant, an ******* and cannot keep his lies straight. I have heard and do believe that he is a closet *******ual (see Leonard Ellerbe, the mustache, etc. -- Its obvious). I would like nothing more than to see his head split by Margacheato but I will have to admit this: No one beats him at 147/154/160. Calzaghe would be the first person I could think of that has a shot. Don't get me started about him. Paquiao has no shot he should retire.

Yep, Arum and Roach already doing everything they can to avoid Mayweather. We'll hear more of this after the Cotto/Pac fight. That's guaranteed.
