Comments Thread For: Joshua on Going the Distance with Franklin: Mike Tyson Went 12 Rounds; What's Wrong With Me Going 12?

Anthony Joshua doesn't think he should be faulted for defeating Jermaine Franklin via points rather than stoppage. On Saturday night, in London's O2 Arena, Joshua handily outpointed Michigan's Franklin over 12 rounds. Scores were 118-11, 117-111, 117-111 for the Brit.

AJ is right here about being smart, patient and pace himself in a fight. Indeed there are fighters that have super will and they will not give up no matter what into a fight. There is no point to exhaust yourself. That's why its called sweet science and not pure brawling. After you experiment this and feel it then you get back to boxing smart.

Also a prime-young-undefeated Mike Tyson went 12 rounds against James Tillis, Mitch Green, James Smith and Tony Tucker.

Young-undefeated Foreman went 12 rounds against Roberto Davila, Gregorio Peralta and Levi Forte.

            So it happens.

Don’t use Mike as an example you make yourself look foolish and rarely did Mike go 12 with no vigor either.

                It does happen.

Problem is, the pre-fight literature, and certain Joshua bursts ("The more he talks, the deeper the grave he's digging for himself") prepared all of us to a statement. Which is to say, a rapid, possibly devastating knockout win.

Now AJ is rightly trying to look at the half-full glass after that damp squib of a fight. But the fact remains that he disappointed most everybody, and didn't look good at all.

Mike went 12 with Donovan "Razor" Ruddock, in a rematch, go the KO in the first meeting. Franklin is no Razor Ruddock!

We may be discrediting Franklin here a little too much to. I for one expected AJ to stop him but Franklin may just be that hard headed guy that dont fold easily
