I think this is just definitional. You only count a punch if it lands flush, while I think the more normal definition is that it counts if it lands, even if it's partially defended, either by gloves, or body defense/footwork.
I'm not sure I agree fully. Loma was favoring the shoulder even during warm-ups, which most people don't rewatch, and he's historically been a slow starter. That may really come back to bite him against Haney, who's been good at banking early rounds. I think he's going to need to come out a lot more aggressive than his usual.
But I've thought this whole time that Lopez got way more credit than he deserved, and we already saw that against Kambosos, and then again against Martin. He could be something, but he got really arrogant and hasn't evolved at all. He reminds me of Berlanga. They're both their own worst enemies (although his pops is a jackass).
Oh, and I'm pretty sure I'm the other poster that JJB thought was your alt (short for alternate account). In case you were curious. He bases accusations purely on whether someone agrees with him, and seems to do that pretty regularly.
I do think that Lopez's power made Loma more cautious than usual. And Lopez was doing things that made it more difficult for Loma, but in the end, Loma found a way. I finally understand what he was trying to do and what adjustment he made. If you look in the beginning, he countered Lopez finally with a three-piece, and in that three-piece was a right hook, almost an overhand. That's Lopez's weakness. But that's why his shoulder felt messed up. After that, there were no more right hooks or overhands. It was just straight jabs over the top. That's where you see how he was affected. Low punch output and no uppercuts or hooks with the right. That rotation was too painful, so he just used a jab conservatively.
