For a young guy it's easier, the problem with the majority of fighters, they do not have the level of education to learn another language, especially spanish speaking boxers. I wish they all could learn, that would be great, but I know how hard it's, so my second wish is the interpreter, they're awful. In any case, I speak both languages.
Fighters not being able to speak english is a disgrace

i mean if you are poor boxer and just starting out, i understand. but if you are a notable boxer who has achieved a certain level of fame and fortune, no excuse. For a young guy it's easier, the problem with the majority of fighters, they do not have the level of education to learn another language, especially spanish speaking boxers. someone like canleo has no excuse for barely being able to speak english despite all the fame and fortune he has while mexico is right next to the U.S. and knowing that you are gonna have to do business in america.
someone like lara who applied for U.S. citizenship should be able to speak the language.
how you gonna apply for a citizenship to a country yet you dont speak the language?
its not some impossible unreasonable request.Comment

They're missing out, that's for sure, but not a disgrace. Do I care? Not at all.

I speak the language that makes me the most money.A disgrace? That's a bit harsh. How many languages do you speak TheIronMike? Isn't it worse that one of the richest nation in the world doesn't have an effective system in place to prepare its citizens to be bilingual? Or why can't the citizens of the US use the huge amounts of information available to just learn multiple languages? Most fighters have never had access to a good education which may also increase the difficulty of learning a new language.Comment

Sure... so you're a basic monolingual saying it's a disgrace poor people from poor countries don't always learn English. You're a hypocrite and you're wrong about speaking the language that makes the most money.

Who says the WORLD has to comport to your standard? With the amount of information that we have access to in the 21st century and more specifically 2020s, fighters should not be having interviews and being completely incapable of speaking english during an interview with english broadcasters.
In the 1980s, Alexis Arguello spoke better english than fighters 40 year later with access to high speed internet!
There is no downside in learning english, it will make you more money during your career, and after boxing for years to come.
Cong**** to Canelo and Cotto, who magnified their career earning potential by keeping up with their english speaking skills!Comment
