But look at what he’ll be remembered as ; the fughin guy who fought nobody and chased Canelo like a puppy
He won’t be mentioned as a great besides his nuthugging fans cheering him on for his classic fights vs Szeremeta , Rolls , Wade Or Lemieux
Benavidez is 26 years old and has fought fugh all besides Plant
Even If he fights until 35 at one fight a year , that would be 9 more fighters which , looking at his career so far , it won’t be a who’s who of boxing

A tusk it I was surprised to find out a couple of weeks ago that his mother was half Dominican. At least that’s what I saw someone post and it’s also stated on Wikipedia as written below
David was born to a Mexican father and an Ecuadorian-Dominican mother, his older brother, José Benavidez Jr. is also a professional boxer.

Well now I know what you know, thanks for that bit of trivia I hadn't heard it before. As far as his older brother is concerned he was shot in one of his legs years ago.
The shooting occurred 8/22/16, the bullet tore through the femoral artery above the right knee his record at the time was 24-0 (16 KO's).
He was out of boxing for 1 year, and 7 month's, while he recuperated, after his return to the ring he's gone 2-2-1 (2 KO's), and (1 KO by), Terrance "Bud" Crawford.
That injury has ruined his boxing career, and it's a shame that some fighter's even when they channel their energy into a sport, they still can't avoid the hazard's of the street.

Canelo just had hand surgery give him a break he just fought bivol lmao. Also canelo has belts in 3 divisions that’s a lot of mandatories benevidez just needs to keep beating good opponents and the big fights will come. All this canelo chasing is pathetic and bad for boxing. Fight morrel charlo andrade beat one or 2 of them I gaurantee the canelo fight will be in big demand. Thing is I think they know if David goes that route he might lose and they don’t wanna jeopardize the payday

I’m not arguing that ggg has had some stellar career with great opposition. I do think he has squandered opportunities especially after the second Canelo fight to do something better with his career. But, it also can’t be ignored that he was blatantly ducked for years by many, including Canelo. He also was the recipient of bad scoring because he at least deserved 1 win against Canelo. But using him as an example of what not to do probably isn’t the best approach because I’m sure most current would switch their careers to have his. The better example would be Charlo and Andrade who have done nothing and still haven’t made any massive pay days while waiting on Canelo. Benavidez is at least trying to make meaningful fights and imo deserves a shot at Canelo more than anyone Canelo has faced at 168 so far.

Benavidez fight earns Canelo more money, strengthens his legacy and shuts people up. Pretty sensible fight to take in September. And also, he's mandatory for WBC. Though I guess all that mandatory stuff doesn't matter anymore with Canelo and Charlo and others doing whatever they want to.

David would had his shot if he didn't loose his belt for drugs and then coming overweight. Right now he is as worthy contender if Canelo doesn't go after Bivol if he beats Ryder.
