The winner of Benavidez vs Plant is the mandatory challenger for Canelo's WBC SMW belt, and we all know who that is. I don't know of any contingency stating that Benavidez had to beat Plant "better" than Alvarez did.

Going into the fight, it was practically the entire marketing strategy.
If the winner is the mando, then Nelo will have to deal with it.
Which I'm sure he will.

that fight last night showed the level of these guys that canelo was beating at 168... and i dont mean that in a good way. plant, saunders, smith they are all the same, any good fighter makes easy work of them, cause thats what canelo is, a good fighter, not some legendary ATG that his fans like to make out

They might not be the highest level caliber fighters but they sure are levels above Golovkins entire resume except for Jacob’s who I consider the same level as the fighters you mentioned. You Golovkin fans like to scream the loudest when it comes to who Alvarez fights yet turn a blind eye when your fighter decided to never step up to build an ATG resume himself and sold his career for an Alvarez payday

If Inoue retires right now name one fighter besides an old Nonito(who was already was beat multiple of times) whos a hofer or atg in his prime? Beating the best in weak divisions doesn't mean anything. His legacy would have been hof, atg worthy if he didn't skip 115.

David beat the consensus #2 fighter,3rd at worst,boxer at 168lbs. Andrade,Morrell and Jermall are far less deserving so who does that leave ahead of David?

Just on beating Plant right now makes him above Ryder who Canelo is fighting next, let alone the rest of his resume and the hype surrounding Canelo vs David.

Its a very big fight, my money is on Canelo I think his short stature, fast hands, power, great chin and very effective body punching can get it done in a shootout.

I wouldn't say "he's better because he stopped him" but Canelo is seemingly a more powerful puncher and better finisher in the fact that he was able to stop plant in less amount of punches landed and was also able to finish the job once he had him hurt whereas Benavidez had Plant hurt for 5 rounds and couldn't get him out of there.

Also, the quality of Canelo punches landed seem better, he seemed to land the cleaner more accurate blows whereas a lot of Benavidez' punches were grazing shots or partially blocked, he didn't have much clean work for someone who landed 300 punches as the stats say.

All this doesn't necessarily mean that Canelo beats Benavidez, David has a better engine, throws more, is a bigger, longer and potentially physically stronger guy that'll keep coming. I think someone like Bivol outboxes him quite comfortably but how Canelo does against Benavidez I'm not sure, I'd love to see that fight.

Benavidez beat up Plant more despite not stopping him and Plant never clinched Canelo for dear life like he did Benavidez, which again shows whos the real monster. He feared standing infront of Benavidez yet spent a lot of the fight vs Canelo in the pocket.

Not many are mentioning that this was the best version of Plant we had seen. He was physically in his best condition, clearly sitting down on his punches more than vs Canelo, yet Benavidez still beat him up.

yeah losing the first 5 rounds and then landing at will the last 7 but still being unable to drop Plant was a better performance than Canelo's stoppage.
