  • Comments Thread For: Benavidez: The Longer Canelo Takes To Fight Me, The More Experience I Gain By Beating Everyone Else

Securing his legacy has always been more important to David Benavidez than preserving his unblemished record. It's the reason why he pushed for a head-on collision with Caleb Plant in lieu of a stay-busy fight versus shopworn Jose Uzcategui. It meant spending another two-to-three months longer than expected out of the ring but well worth the risk for what the unbeaten former two-time WBC super middleweight champion aims to accomplish.

More like Nell will be past prime and wear and tear. Nel o got more experience but fighting good fighters puts more wear on body at same time

It would be ironic for Benavidez to beat Canelo and for Canelo fans to claim he was past his prime as the reason why he lost. Seeing how all of the biggest names on Canelo’s resume were between the ages of 35-40 when he fought them.

I believe Canelo IS past his peak and nearing the end of his prime, his chronilogical age notwithstanding. That aside, look for him to move to higher mountains after Ryder. If not Bivol, look for Badou Jack at cruiserweight for the WBC crown. Benevidez has the right notion, that one need just go out and get experience. Should he prevail tonight, I'd push him towards Artur Beterbiev, hoping he'll put his money where his mouth is. This 168lb stuff for him, after 2 lost title and now carrying an interim variant is akin to professional ************.

Benavidez is a beast right now, so if Plant is able to pull off the upset--it will be remarkable.

If the fight happens, David will have to drop Memo Heredia as his "SC coach".
Canelo demands extensive VADA testing during training camp.

“I’ve said for a while that if I have to carve out my own history, that’s even better for me, fighting all these f-----’ guys nobody wants to face,”

I'm just trying to figure out who he has fought "that nobody else wants to fight"???

After this fight, provided Benevidez wins and looks good doing it, the fight with Canelo will be a much bigger fight in every way. To Canelo, that’s a very good thing.

If Benavidez keeps on winning that will be absolutely correct, as a matter a fact I think that Benavidez can beat Canelo right now.
Canelo has slowed down enough in the last few years, that the wear and tear is starting to show big time, and he doesn't have more than 1-3 fights in the lime light.

Exactly. He finally did what Canelo asked. Fight someone good and win....
