  • Comments Thread For: Canelo vs. Ryder: Hearn Hopes To Announce The Fight Next Week

Promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom is hoping to officially announce the super middleweight clash between Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and John Ryder in the coming days. Last year, Canelo moved up to the light heavyweight division and suffered an unexpected decision loss at the hands of WBA world champion Dmitry Bivol.

Good luck to Ryder but hopefully Canelo will get on with much better things after this!

Ryder is coming for the fight. Problematic inside fighter. We can watch decent fight in the pocket if Canelo comes with his 50%.

I'm glad Eddie Hearn feels like John Ryder "really deserves it", cause the rest of us don't. John Ryder poses zero threat and brings nothing notable to the table to bolster canelos "legacy". The man has been defeated by three opponents that canelo easily disposed of; Callum smith, rocky fielding, and billy Joe saunders. And that's not counting the questionable victory against Jacobs.

This is a sham fight that should be broadcast for free. Either way, not paying for this trash.

Well deserved fight for Ryder. Took his chance to become mandatory rather than cry off like Andrade and should really have already fought Canelo after the Smith fight.

While I’ll acknowledge that Andrade has wasted his career fighting primarily low to mid level opposition, if him being a champion in 2 divisions Canelo was in didn’t get him a fight with canelo in the past, obtaining a mandatory position wasn’t likely going to land him the fight either. Canelo has shown in the past that he doesn’t care about mandatories as he’s the same guy who had 3 titles stripped at mw for not facing mandatories. Ryder is getting this opportunity because he’s a limited fighter from the Uk who poses little risk, which is right up Canelo’s alley. Not because he “deserves” it by beating another nobody due to injury or getting a gift over a washed up Jacobs.
