A "just 32 yr old Canelo" is a 60 fight veteran with the most stacked resume of any boxer born after 1980, active or retired. Canelo is still the man at 168 until someone can prove otherwise. Benavidez is getting ahead of himself like Zurdo when the most notable opponent on his resume is second tier Dirrell who barely escaped with a controversial SD over Yildirim and was laid out by Plant (who team Benavidez wouldn't risk fighting when they were champs).

I like David, he's one of the most exciting fighters in all of boxing, no doubt.

But his dad, and him, better focus and not underestimate Caleb Plant.

Canelo has been there and done that. So it's a fair test to see how Benavidez does. Besides a big Canelo fight, would love to see him against Morrell.

This is an ESPN stat......irrelevant, and can be disputed.

They do these things, while Ginger continues to look worse each fight, especially against GGG. Benavidez knows that Cinnabon is going to duck him forever, so he's finally being smart and controlling his own destiny. He's going to fight all the fighters that Clenelo wouldn't risk taking, and win or lose, that's solid and admirable.

The narratives haters run with are ridiculous. He never made use of a franchise status, he's beaten more champs and unified more divisions than any active fighter. And the only "catchweight championship fights" he had were for the benefit of his opponent. Canelo was champ yet moved down to Floyd's catchweight to defend his own belts. Cotto was the champ in their fight and dictated the weight, and fought Khan at 155 because it would have been preferable to bringing him to the full 160 division like hypocrite team GGG. But all the 13 titles he won from 154-175 were at the full division limit. Note: he's the only fighter in history to both unify alphabet titles plus claim the Ring belt in 3 divisions and the only ex welterweight beside Hearns to become champ at 175. And currently reigning as the only 4 belt unified champ at 168. 5 of his past 6 opponents have been reigning champs. But you've got a problem with that lol?

He has decent head movement, but little to no foot movement, because he's planted, trying to throw a hard counter. That's one of the main reasons why volume combinations will limit his counters, because he would be constantly waiting for his chance to counter after trying to avoid 5 or 6 punches. That's one of many reasons Bivol was hitting him with ease because he threw more than 1 or 2 punches, throwing off the timing of Clenelo's counters.

Also, Ginger doesn't fight well off the back foot, and Benavidez is an extremely aggressive pressure fighter and the bigger man, he won't have a choice. Canelo has avoided him for a very good reason, he doesn't want to be seen as subpar.
Either way, I will give Alvarez the benefit of the doubt and say he would probably take David seriously enough to actually do his homework, which he did not do with Bivol. Me personally, I am talking about the Canelo who used to box. Not the stationary power puncher he's become. The Canelo who took his opponents seriously. Yeah, he existed briefly. But I think ultimately, it may be impossible for that version to return considering his advancing age and recent injuries. So... I don't know. Honestly, I don't care enough about Canelo to really put the full science behind it. But going from the "eye test," I just don't see it with Benavidez. He reminds me of a slightly faster Zurdo, whose pressure is impressive to be sure, but his defense is weak, he's not a very hard hitter, and he looks to be propped up on bellhops. I need to see him in with a technician to get the full read, I think.

Explain this, please. Why should Benavidez have gotten the nod over any Canelo opponent over the last 3-4 years? Yildirim was a mandatory. Had Benavidez kept his WBC SMW belt Canelo would surely have taken it from him already. Benavidez took himself out of queue.

Sad thing is I used to really like the benevidez camp. But it’s obvious his sons get their schtick from pops. David is severely overrated And morrel jr will KO him well before he ever beats anyone close to canelo skill level. Sr wants that pay day real bad but I disagree with the way he’s going about it.

You might as well take his sack out of your mouth for a moment to put your spin on the truth. Cinnabon fought in 5 straight catchweight fights, I guess that was for everyone else's benefit, huh? What about when he fought little Matthew Hatton at a larger catchweight so that he could be the bigger man, or JCC weight drained himself to a catchweight just to fight him? What about fighting Khan at a larger weight, so that he could bully him instead of facing Golovkin?

What about fighting multiple fights for middleweight at 155, because he didn't want to go up to the full 160 to face GGG in his prime? He waited to age him, and once he finally saw him struggle with Deveryanchenko and Jacobs, now he's willing to fight at 160.

The franchise belt was made for him through a mutual agreement with Cinnabon, Golden Boy, and the WBC. It allowed him to duck Charlo and Andrade for years as he fought in different divisions and GGG 3 times without ever honoring his mandatory unless he wanted to. You pube sniffers will say anything to defend your idol. I don't hate him, I just call out the bullshxt and want to see the best fights.
