I would have chosen Bam Rodriguez. Remember, he had never even fought for a major title, and came up two weight classes on extremely short notice to take on the veteran former world champion. Then he defends against arguably the biggest puncher in the division instead of vacating, both against his coach's recommendations, and knocks out SSR. Follow that up with a further title defense against another ranked opponent as a cherry on top, and it's bizarre that someone can jump from rising contender in one division to world champion two divisions up, defend twice, all against ranked opponents, and not get the nod as fighter of the year.

I'm not too displeased with the choice of Bivol, but wouldn't have been my choice.
