Why is losing once so horrible in the sport of boxing?

    I couldn’t agree more.
I think it’s a combination of things, the legacy of Mayweather remaining undefeated (even though he probably deserved a loss or 2 in his career).
The negative coverage of journalists on boxers after they lose, instead of discussing their positive performance they use hyperbole to put the losers down. We seem to refer to anyone outside of the top 3 in a given division as “bums.”
Naoya Inoue has won 18 world title fights, across 3 weight divisions, yet I saw someone saying he’s only fought bums. Lomachenko has an awesome resume, but because of his two losses I’ve read he was a hype job, even though his last defeat came whilst requiring shoulder surgery (he’s also clearly undersized in the division he is fighting in).
I don’t really get it, but todays boxing fans in general seem unforgiving and fickle.

Very recent? I'm 32 and been following for 20 years, I don't remember a time when fighters weren't heavily protecting their 0.

I'm sorry but I've seen a lot of message boards of different sports for a long time, since the internet really blew up. Boxing seems to have the lowest active IQ level, this site is one of the best examples and the only thing comparable were sport sites where the members had a language barrier so they get an excuse.

Kind of ironic that the sweet science is followed by mostly dummies(the smart ones are overshadowed).

Indeed. It's the main reason why many of them are fighting once a year now.

I think a loss is worse now in this era because of social media. Boxing fans s*** on fighters when they have 1 bad performance not even loss.

Because most of these guys fight nothing but guys they’re supposed to beat, so when they take that one loss it’s typically in their only challenging fight.

Look at this bigger Charlo, he hasn`t fought anybody good ever.

For example if he faces Canelo or Andrade and losses, his career is pretty much over. The same goes for Andrade.

These guys spend years fighting bums or doing nothing. When they are about 30 they lose to the only credible opponent they have ever fought and that is it.

because they spend another 2 years fighting bums.

Look at heavyweight contender like Sanchez, Hrgovic, Wallin, there are many of them, they are all doing nothing waiting on a big fight.

If they fought each other frequently, one loss wouldn`t mean anything.

Fundora just lost his 0 and in a bad way . We'll see how he bounces back . If he gets back in the winning column or falls off. I think it's mostly a mental thing .

That's the problem, they don't fight often enough. And when they do, they don't fight the best.
