He was completely active and he took some very hard shots in 10 yet never stopped throwing and landing his own hard shots. I’ve seen dozens of fights far far worse than this one never stopped. Not a single time did any announcer call for the fight to be stopped because he never stopped throwing.

The most dangerous fights are those where the fighter is taking hard shots but is giving no indication of giving in and keeps coming forward. It’s impossible for Weeks to make a stoppage call against a fighter so active. Yerb was still moving, coming forward and dodging shots in round 11. Even in round 12 up to the point of the KO he wasn’t wobbly, and sprang up within a half second of the first KD. The ring doctor was in his corner in round 9 and barely even looked at him. Obviously she was either incompetent or had little to no concerns. I think people need to rewatch this fight before making judgements such as what is being shared.

How long have you been watching boxing serious question?

It's not that he stopped throwing or falling around its that he was taking hard shots rd after rd by a power puncher never won a rd or had any real success. Then you can see his face getting busted up and swollen. Then around 9th 10th rds he began blinking a lot which is a huge symptom that something is not right.

You know who else was still punching in the 11th rd when the fight was stopped? Maxim Dadashev. He never stopped trying but it was too late by the time the fight was stopped.

I was in the rd by rd thread saying the fight should have been stopped around the 8th is when I noticed he was getting beat up badly with no sign of turning it around. If me as a regular fan can see that then surely an expert like Weeks should have noticed it too. He fuxked up big time and the corner and Dr too.

Naw anyone excusing weeks or his corner saying it’s a beautiful sport this and that can stfu. That was a prolonged unnecessary brutal beating where that kid had no chance of ever winning. U see fights stopped for nothing on a whim but to let this have gone on like that past round 8 was bad. There it was so one sided. Just a terrible black eye for the sport. I’m a huge morrel jr fan I really wish he just laid off that last round there was no need to press for the KO Ronnie shields should have called him off the other kids corner should thrown in the towel the ref should’ve stopped it. Really sad. I hope he pulls through

And when it happens again under your 10 round modification? change it to 8 rounds? and then 6? and then 4 rounders? mind you boxing has already went from 15 rounds to 12 because of this.

Sorry but this is a violent sport there is no way to completely eliminate it.

Better educating referees and cornermen on the early tell tale signs of brain damage is a more useful option.

When the aim is to hit people in the head and knock them unconscious this will always happen on occasions, they are highly skilled powerful athletes doing the punching.

I believe football has more brain injuries than boxing.

I pray that Aidos will recover fully from the horrible damage he took.

I only saw brief parts of the fight, but could see he looked terribly bad when taken to the corner stool after the fight.

In this most brutal of sports, sometimes fights are stopped too quickly. In this fight, it looks like it was stopped too late.

Yerbossynuly is incredibly tough, but the constant punishment absorbed is worse than getting ko'd in round one with one punch.

There's been unbelievably tough guys, like George Chuvalo, who could take massive punishment and be okay after the fight, but only a few guys like that.

Prayers with Aidos and family, he can recover like Adonis Stevenson did. There's other safer things to do than boxing, or can still be in the sport as a trainer, manager or promoter.

To answer your first question, 41 years. As to your other points: he was still throwing hard shots back. I’ve seen absolutely grotesque faces of boxers getting beat up far worse than what was witnessed Saturday night and by a long shot and by much much harder punchers. These boxers came out just fine. Some, unable to blink due to the swollen condition of their faces. He was at no time defenseless until the KO. He was still dodging, weaving and throwing back hard body shots. Irrespective of whether he was winning rounds or not he was an undefeated highly ranked professional.

At no point did he lose track of where he was, stumble back to his corner, mutter nonsense or any indications of any type of brain trauma. The doctor, the corner, as well as Weeks all saw the same things and nothing indicated any alarm. Even the blinking (sweat, eyes bothering him, busted nose). As I said prior, it’s always easier when there is hindsight but in the moment we’d have ALL chastised the fight relentlessly had it been stopped in those rounds. We do it all the time when we feel a boxer can and should continue. The only reason we can say the things we are now is….hindsight.

Indeed. Morrell may never be the same fighter after this, especially if the worst happens (let's hope it doesn't, needless to say).
