You know your in trouble when one of the referee's considered among the best doesn't stop a fight like that

      Wasn't the ref Tony Weeks?

The same guy who ran in to stop Angulo after one uppercut from Canelo and no blood seen.

I know Britain gets stick for soft stoppages but it needs to be remembered that people can die. He wasn't at the races at all and got a 22 rnd beating. If he was in the fight I would understand but this was needless. Hope he is ok

The ref always has the fighter's life in his hands--very hard job. The fighter's corner is also responsible for their fighter's safety. The boxing game is serious sht.

I always stress for the fighter that goes through this. I really hope he recovers and can live a normal life. He took a lot of hard punches and kept coming. Too tough for his own good.

When it is such a total one sided fight then what is the reasoning to make it continue past the eight?

Because you can't give someone an L just for being behind in a fight when they might still win by KO. The protocols need looking at (speed of giving him oxygen after the KO, why was he not given immediate help, how often was he inspected by the ring doctor, how quickly did the doctor see him after the stoppage, etc), but you can't in general stop fights just because a fighter is in a losing position if they are wanting to continue and still able to defend themselves.

It's a sad event, but I don't think the ref messed up, as such -- though maybe he should have called in the doc more frequently for checks. His corner are more culpable for letting their fighter take the needless punishment. Hope he recovers.

Anyone excusing this needs to check themselves. This wasn’t a competitive fight between 2 guys that were warriors. This was a mismatch that shouldn’t have been made in the 1st place. Yes boxing is violent but again to see fights huge fights stopped when barely a punch is landed in fights where the competitors are closely matched in skill then to see this kid left in there to get basically beaten almost to death…it’s a sport man. This wasn’t sport. At some point everyone involved needs to look in the mirror. The ref both corners David morrel the ringside doctor. They all were Complete and Utter failure Saturday night

Again this wasn’t competitive. Yerb was never gonna win by KO. This wasn’t ward-Sanchez. Yerb needed to be protected from himself.

The reality of things is that all fans, including all of you who act noble at this time, are the first ones to had said "He Quit On His Stool" and label him a quitter. Boxing fans are the first fans that will punish a boxer for not continuing. Stop being hypocrites and learn this lesson MOFOS! Before we criticize an athlete that is putting his life at risk to make money for a better life, think about what they are doing for us the fans who pay to be entertained. God be with him and keep him alive for the good of his family.
