Those saying how bad Loma looked.

Loma last fought almost a year ago, he then went home to his war torn country, so he very likely had his thoughts on other things besides traning and boxing. Who knows how all this affected him mentally, but it most likely did in some manner. War, his return fight, the pressure to win, all that leaves a mark up there, during his training camp. He is also 34 soon to be 35, so that also takes its toll on the body.

And let’s not take anything away from Ortiz, the young fighter came in top shape, hungry to win. He had all the motovation, preparation and athletics behind him, and he was game to win.

The fight was rather close, I had 8-4 bit could see 7-5 for Loma. Let’s see how Loma looks in the next fight.

Hes old, has a style that depends on reflexes and is undersized for 135. is what it is, the blue print to outwork him is there and fighters know this now and these larger guys are willing to do it because they arent afraid of his counters the same way guys of his size were.

I think with everything Loma has been through he’s allowed an off night. Training camp was very short from what I read. He will have a full training camp for Haney.

Loma fans need to stop whining.

We all understand why he didnt look good. Just stop elevating Ortiz to a level he simply isnt.

Loma is a very good fighter that returned from a lomg layoff, had a a tougher than expected fight because of the absence, yet fought tough the last 4 rounds to escape with a win.

Good boxers win when their not at their best. Loma did that last night.

I told the noobs who were arguing he wouldn’t need a tune-up. Some don’t seem to understand that when most guys are inactive for a year they are still visiting the gym. Lomachenko likely did next to no boxing. And it showed in his reflexes, which wasn’t congruent with being 34 years of age, it was pure rust.

The difficulty he had with reacting to Ortiz’s jab, to counter off (which is Lomachenko’s bread and butter) was what caused most of the trouble.

He was quicker at 130, whereas at 135 he seems more focused on power and throwing harder shots. Less speed.

So now 10 months is a long lay off? Its almost standard. Floyd came back after 2 years to win every rounds vs Marquez. The coping excuses are hilaruous.

Ortiz had a strong amateur background. Went the distance with Ennis, Berlanga and Teofimo in Olympic trials. He is not an easy fight for anyone. He looked weight drained to make 135, wouldn’t surprise me to see him move to 140 sooner rather than later.

He was a former sparring partner for Loma, which allowed him an advantage over many other opponents who step into the ring with Loma for the first time. Add Loma’s inactivity, age and war in Ukraine and he performed about as expected. His next fight should tell the story as to what’s left. One thing is certain, the best version of Loma is well behind him. He still beats Tank and Garcia easily IMO.
