It's not that simple! They could always make him "Franchise" Champion again!
Bumavidez has no good wins he needs to stfu. He’d get KOd worse than rayo did

It’s obvious that Canelo’s “1 champion”argument is bullsh** and a lame excuses because he knows Benavidez brings the type of smoke he doesn’t want. That “amazing” run canelo and his fans like to brag about at 168 includes
      Fielding (0 champions)
      Smith (1 champion)
      Yidilgrim (0 champions)
      Saunders (1 champion)
      Plant (0 champions)

      So it’s typical Canelo hypocrisy.

Canelo has been playing serious dodge ball over fighting Benavidez for real! This boy a nightmare and everyone knows it! I have yet to see him hurt also, and he’s coming all night and will be in shape. That’s a Nightmare!

Yeah they can make him franchise champion, BUT he will lose face with all of the boxing fan's who do want to see this particular fight happen.
He will be shamed into taking this fight sooner or later, because where ever he goes he won't be able to escape the question he dread's the most.
WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO FINALLY FIGHT THE TALL, YOUNG, FAST, STRONG, AND UNDEFEATED DAVID BENAVIDEZ?
You fought Avani Yildirim, who do you think he was, and what did you think he had achieved in his career?
He's calling you out, by not taking the fight it look's like your afraid of what many fan's want to find out, that is can you beat the young upstart Benavidez?

Win or lose, he doesn’t come out of this one unscathed, and with Benavides bringing nothing like titles to the show, not surprised Canelo’s not keen.

But the real point is this: WTF is Benavidez doing at 6’3” and 200lbs+ fighting at SMW?

Yildirim was a mandatory. The others were current world champions. If Benavidez would have kept his belt, he would have gotten his shot last year. The narrative that Benavidez is being and has been ducked by Canelo is farcical. Benavidez is a very good fighter, but there was no compelling reason to fight him before any of the fighter's Canelo fought over the last two years. Everybody accepts that Canelo was testing the 168lb waters when he moved up to fight Fielding. After that, every other fight Canelo took was either a mandatory, a world title challenge or a legacy fight that earned him something new. Fighting Benavidez was just a good SMW win, with nothing more. These two will fight soon enough. I hope its soon.

Canelo's best win before the big fight vs Mayweather was Trout. Mosley, Cintron, Baldomir were past it. However he probably looks at those as solid wins enough vs former world champions to compare.

I am sure Canelo doesn't see David as a super fight as people are making it out to be. I don't think he wants to be "forced" by the media and public into a fight vs someone that maybe hasn't earned it in his opinion. I can't help but to believe he also doesn't want to take the risk of losing to another Mexican fighter with nothing at stake.

Benavidez would get washed but he wants that pay day.

                      Gotta start somewhere I suppose.

Not much upward movement if he started at Cruiser.

His current route, he could compete in 4 divisions by the end. but since he isn't approaching boxing well, he might never turn heavy. He'll hand around 168 for too long like GGG did 160.
