honestly, it didnt help THAT much...but on the other hand, Mayweather's punches had more effect on Marquez than they would if Mayweather weighed less. you could tell Marquez was apprenhensive to go after Mayweather on more than a few occasions.
not to mention that the few punches Marquez actually landed cleanly pretty much tickled Mayweather...especially the body shots.
it was more the reach and speed advantage that dominated the fight for Mayweather than anything else.
The weight didn't help, at all... JMM was at a pretty big disadvantage cause of it... but I am pretty sure that most of us would agree that Floyd made it clear that he was the better overall fighter in there anyway.
He performed very well for a guy who has had a 2 year layoff.
yup.. three weight class difference has nothing to do with it what so ever.
it would not have been a closer fight were they the same size
Its crazy how it changes every 5 min. One second its the extra wieght PBF weigh which made the fight, the next it the extra JMM gained, the next its the weight that he didnt lose. But everyone is ignoring what PBF used to dominate the fight, it wasnt size or reach at all.
If you don't think that him being likely 20 pounds heavier had anything to do with the outcome, then you're a ****ing idiot.
With your logic, what's the point of having weightclasses for fighters who 'don't use their weight', in your words.
How did floyd weighing more than JMM dictate the outcome of the fight more than the fact that floyd is leagues better techinally, 5x faster and on a defense level JMM hasnt come close to seeing?
The extra weight would have only benefitted floyd 2 ways, more power and more resilance to JMM punches.
JMM wasnt knocked out so obviously PBF wasnt so big and strong he couldnt hang with him.
JMM also didnt and a single meaningfull punch the entire fight. So you cant say PBF was so big he couldnt hurt him.
Ive also seen a few idiots coment about the reach advantage. Obviously youve never seen a Paul williams fight if you think floyd had a gross reach advanatge.
Even though Mayweather is a lot better than Marquez, the weight did make a difference. The difference was that Mayweather, grew into a Welterweight. He was a Super Featherweight, and in his last Super featherweight fights he used to stop eating for 2-3 days (for his last super featherweight fight he really struggled to make weight and didn't eat for 3 days according to him!) and as a young man growing...he grew into a lightweight and by the time he hit 30 is a proper welterweight. Marquez started a featherweight and....stayed a featherweight! He didn't struggle to make weight and the only reason he moved up to Super featherweight was because Barrera, Morales and Pacquiao all moved up! Then the only reason he moved up to lightweight was to chase Pacquiao...then he moved upto Welterweight to test himself against the best in Mayweather. He bulked up, lost speed, looked wrong at 142...it just was not his weight. Mayweather grew into a welterweight naturally over time and thus didn't lose speed, gained punching power and what not....likewise Manny Pacquiao started as a Flyweight and grew into a Light Welterweight, which is why he hasn't lost any speed. Manny was killing himself to make weight early in his career, and although he is too small to be a welter...Light welterweight for him is perfect. Btw dawg, I'm not chasing you to reply to all your posts incase you think I am!!! Just seen your posts and thought I'd respond to maybe shed light on it!
Teh same way that floyd would look slower and tire quicker if he fought hopkins at 160.
Weight was everything.
Ok so what was the minimum weight JMM could have weighed? Who forced him to gain so much weight it made him ineffective if thats what you belive detirmened the fight? When PBF fought DLH, DLH weighed 160+ and it was a secret he would, the fight was for 154 and PBF weighed in at 150 and won it. Why did JMM do the same? Dont bull**** yourself. This fight could have been at any weight and it would ahve the same outcome.
Funny nobody used this EXCUSE about weight pre fight. Fact is whites dont like Floyd because he is rich and arrogant. Had it been Pavlick with the same comments he would be a STUD. Had it been Pavlick making it rain it would be COOL. Those are the facts, "they" dont like a rich, ****y black guy. Floyd will never get his props from "them". Floyd is the best pound for pound and Shane, Pacman nor Pavlick will beat him. Only one with a chance is Paul Willams. Did someone say "the weight would matter if Floyd fought B-hop?" LMAO. Floyd would embarrass that old man. If you think that Jermaine was too fast for B-hop then what do you think is going to happen if Floyd fights him. Some of you are about as sharp as a a drawer full of spoons.
How did floyd weighing more than JMM dictate the outcome of the fight more than the fact that floyd is leagues better techinally, 5x faster and on a defense level JMM hasnt come close to seeing?
floyd was too big and strong. jmm's punches had 0 effect on pbf.
The extra weight would have only benefitted floyd 2 ways, more power and more resilance to JMM punches.
not to mention that floyd had every mutha****in advantage...
JMM wasnt knocked out so obviously PBF wasnt so big and strong he couldnt hang with him.
nah, floyd didn't go for the kill for whatever reason. he could've KOed JMM anytime he wanted after the 5th... all he needed to do was let his hands go more.
JMM also didnt and a single meaningfull punch the entire fight.
jmm obviously didn't bring up his speed with him.
So you cant say PBF was so big he couldnt hurt him.
pbf was so big jmm couldn't hurt him
