    Mayweather-Marquez: The Post-Fight Report Card

By Cliff Rold - The sooner fans realize it the better, unless they want to keep paying for fights that aren’t fights.

Juan Manuel Marquez (50-5-1, 37 KO) got a shot at Floyd Mayweather (40-0, 39 KO) probably in large part because he was seen by some as second only to Manny Pacquiao in pound for pound terms. That comparison shopping could take place, weighing how Mayweather would look with Marquez, and how Pacquiao did look, was also a bonus. What was learned by night’s end is something which gets forgotten too often in hyperbole: pound for pound is not a weight class. [details]

Great article. Although, i do hope Pac will answer those question at WW so we can have the megafight. Unorthodox defensive fighter against an unorthodex offensize fighter. Only difference is the muscle mass. Prior to the Marquez fight, I would have said the the difference between pac and pbf are not that huge. Now... Nah. PBF is bigger than PAC significantly.

I thought Floyd would win by TKO in 5 or 6 rounds, so I guess I'm a little disappointed he took it to decision. Having said all that Floyd made me a few dollars so I'm happy. I'm just glad there was people who believed Marquez would win and put money on it.

Even before this fight, I knew Floyd would beat Pacman if they ever fought, but after watching last night's fight, I'm 100% convinced he would beat him as bad or worse due to Pacman's offensive style. I'm one of the few who do not want to see Mayweather vs Pacman but I know it will make both boxers ALOT of money so be it. I would rather watch him beat up Mosley especially after what he did in the post fight interview. I thought it was funny but I bet Floyd didn't.

I also think Floyd doesn't get props or the credit he so much desires or complains about in interviews because he doesn't challenge himself. What I mean by this is, he should have stopped Marquez, but didn't due to his known habit of not willing to take any risks. (that can be good or bad) I also think he can beat Cotto, Mosley, and Pacman because I believe he is just that more talented and smart. Of course he should fight them to prove it not just assume things, I would prefer he fight true WW as oppose to little guys.

Also, if he is so great like he says and some of his biased fans proclaim (you know the ones pointing out only the people who went blindly with Marquez in this fight and not the reasonable ones who stated Marquez won't do anything to him and it will be a UD for Floyd) what is wrong with Floyd taking on REAL CHALLENGES before he RETIRES AGAIN? Maybe moving up in weight after beating either of these fighters Mosley, Cotto and Pacman. When he beats them who else can he fight at 147? Only other thing I think he can do is get another belt in his 6th weight division maybe a catch weight of 158??? After all his biased fans state weight doesnt matter as long as he has his skills, so be it, but honestly most fighters usually keep moving up challenging themselves further look at Pacman.

the best thing for the sport of boxing is if pac loses and floyd is forced to fight real WWs like Cotto and Mosley.

                  You read my mind.
I would rather see Mayweather vs Mosley than Mayweather vs Paquiao. Also I think he should go and challenge Julio Chaves Jr for his WBC belt.

I think floyd beats all welterweights except maybe one guy ... Paul Williams. (coming from a non-floyd/williams fan). Would love to see that.
