I watched that fight 3 times. I could not get it closer than 6-6. On a neutral watch through it's a 7-5 , 8-4 Kova win with the knockdown. I give Ward credit for the second fight, but he lost this one.

This coddled fraud lost the first match with Kovalev and got a gift
then won the rematch via TKO to the balls
he fought his entire career with home advantage, mauling opponents on the inside with dirty tactics, with the blessings of referees and judges
I'll never forget the way he beat Kessler with a flying headbutt from across the ring, with the referee pretending he didn't see
Ward retired too early, after his bogus W over Kova, most probably to duck Beterbiev and Bivol
Nobody misses his dirty, boring ass in the ring though, even Mayweather was more entertaining to watch

I honestly feel like Ward would have been a much different fighter, record wise, if he fought in neutral sites or with neutral judges/refs.
I saw him beat Froch in a close but clear, rather straightforward win. But every other fight I saw of his, was just riddled with controversy with very favorable judging or referring in my book.

Ward showed grit and guile (with the holding, etc) and won some rounds late in the first fight. But, he lost the fight and was gifted a decision. Ward might have won the second fight without the series of low blows allowed by Tony Weeks (usually a good ref) who then stopped the fight inexplicably when he should've given Kovalev time to recover from the low blows. But, those "wins" certainly tarnish his legacy in my opinion. I still like Dre - he was a great boxer.- and is a good commentator. And Kovalev has shown himself to be an ******. But both fights are examples of the dark side of boxing (and there are many MANY examples) where the A-side fighter gets the gift - a gift the sport keeps on giving, unfortunately.buge likes this.

If I remember correctly, round 10 should have been a clear Kovalev round but somehow it was given to Ward. Essentially that edged the fight to Andre.LA_2_Vegas
