    I just rewatched Lennox -Mercer

    Non-title fight from 1996. A great fight.

It is safe to say, only Fury would be a competition for Lennox today. Mercer would be top 10 clearly.

I saw that card live in the Garden. It was a good fight, Mercer never stopped trying to win and Lewis showed some cojones.

      I thought Mercer edged it.

Mercer was a very good fighter.

Mercer was a tough and nassty man. I wonder what Lennox Lewis thought of him? I wonder if that was a peak Mercer? It was a close fight, and ive seen it once. Im sure i thought Lennox won.

Didn't look like it against old man Holmes.

He’d have easily been champion in this era. Good chin, legit power, decent skills. Just lacked discipline. He’d be a big problem in this current era.

Holmes is one of the greatest fighters of all-time and even as an old man gave prime Holyfield fits.

Mercer was a different type of dude.

When guys like Shannon Briggs or Rid**** Bowe tried kickboxing, they fought nobodies. Holly Holm fought several nobodies before she fought anybody good in MMA, just as Claressa Shields is doing now.

When Ray Mercer tried kickboxing he fought two legitimate world champions and then he tried MMA and fought a 2X UFC heavyweight champion.

Mercer did not win the fight, only the people who wanted him to win say that.

Great fight. I read one time, that the ring was deliberately really small 'In order to force Lewis into that type of fight'.

Ray Mercer was a top fighter, a Olympic Champion.
