”The 25-year-old Benavidez (26-0, 23 KOs) is a former two-time super middleweight champion who has lost his titles outside of the ring due to substance abuse and missing weight. “

And beat no one of note to begin with. Boxing is in such a bad state right now, and has been for a while. When a guy like this can call himself a former two time “champion”, then you look at his resume.

When does it end? When will boxing go back to producing real champions on not just have a pay-for-a-belt model? You have a potentially good fanbase? Cha-ching, you get a belt, here is a no name or old past prime fighter to win it against. Make us some money.

Who is he going to fight @ 160? Oscar pulled Munguia out, Eubank Jr. is fighting Benn, and he doesn't want to fight Andrade, so then who? Benavidez is the best fight out there, and very easy to make!

He needs to do something to get a big fight and prove he's the real deal.

It's sad that he can't get fights in the same house and street.
There's Charlo, Plant, and what happened to the Morrell fight?

          Very very sad.

And what exactly has he done at 175 to deserve the no.1 ranking. I mean, he's barely done anything at 168, the best win on his resume is Andre Dirrell (the same Dirrell who stuggled with Yildrim).

If he's willing to move up, then move up don''t just talk about it, I believe that Beterbiev, Bivol, and Ramirez would take a fight against him.
Although he's still very young, he's wasting his time at 168, first of all it's hard to make the weight limit, but more importantly no one of note wants to fight him.
He's the one that's in need of a big fight, so he has to make some concession's in order to facilitate the scheduling of one of those big fights.
After all it was his own lack of professionalism, that has placed him in the unenviable predicament he finds himself in.
If he's ever fortunate enough to win another world championship, he needs to stay away from drugs, and dedicated enough to make the weight in order to defend it.

For those who can use Google, the WBC already offered him a chance to fight for Beterbiev's title (when Benavidez was having weight issues) but he declined. And Beterbiev is now tied up with his WBO mandatory against Yarde in October/November, and then he may have another mandatory called.

Maybe if the PBC got along better with other promoters/networks, Benavidez could get a shot at a 175 title, but as it stands, no way will they let him 'cross the street' for a title shot - even though they have opponents for him 168, they could even make a fight between him and Marcus Browne at 175.

Benavidez should've put more pressure on the WBC to pull clenelos punk card. If Charlo moves up to 168 then that fight needs to be made

Not really. Benavised out worked Ramirez and Bivol in sparring. Can boxing imaging these four going at each other. Benavidez, Bivol, Ramirez and Beterbiev
