Espinoza admits to putting kibosh on Charlo vs Munguia

    • PBC's Andy Ruiz Jr. challenged Anthony Joshua for the heavyweight title on DAZN
    • PBC's Shawn Porter challenged Terence Crawford for a welterweight title on ESPN+ pay-per-view
Munguia had the WBO and Charlo had the WBC so it's not like Munguia isn't a champ. They both had belts. PBC wanted PPV, but ended up not doing PPV for Munguia replacement Montiel.

Looks like PBC and Showtime were at fault here. Mungia was signed and agreed to terms, PBC has worked with others in the past on PPV's and specifically DAZN.

Charlo vs Montiel did 333,000 viewers lol. Doesn't look to me that GBP is/was the problem here.

    What is the point?

Plenty of good fights to choose from in Charlo's own side of the street. Very easy to make.

    Benavidez, Plant, Lara, Adames.

The point is: Espinoza is a wrench in the machine between getting a fight made with Ryan Garcia and Tank Davis. He's already on record talking the same shit about networks.

Be optimistic, TRY and make it happen. Don't just be a weasle prick and kibosh the dang thing before it even hits the table.

Back to Charla =---> Plant and Lara are blasé fights. I don't even know who Adames is. Charlo won't fight Benavidez.

I don't like Munguia and I don't like Charlo so this was a great fight for me, seeing one lose would be a nice night. Munguia is a tough and scrappy guy and not sure Charlo can handle the heat and it looks like they took the duck path out because the margins weren't big enough for the RISK.

****** thread. Showtime made Munguia an offer and he accepted. Then Golden Boy stopped the fight.

Common PBC tactic. If your fighter doesn't have a belt they have everything to gain so they're willing selectively to send their fighters to other networks. When they have the belt though, they will never send the fighter to the other network or at best force a joint promotion.

Looks like Steve-o here isn't willing to do even a joint promotion though.

Who are the companies sending their fighters to other networks to defend their titles against non champions?

Munguia has never held a title at 160.

Benavidez and Plant have been the only relevant fights for Mall at PBC for a minute and have been for like 6yrs now. He has yet to fight either so I'm not holding my breathe. It's quite remarkable how different his and Mells career/competition has played out.

Canelo isn't dropping down to 160 and Gennady is retiring after Canelo so no sure what Mall is holding out for?

Coming from a guy that bet 1,000,000 vbux on Wilder to beat Fury, I take that as a compliment.

Showtime pursued another fight because GBP wouldn't bend over on the broadcasting rights even though in the past they did joint ventures with other promotional outfits. Showtime didn't want to collaborate and priced themselves out, facts. GBP didn't stop the fight, they just didn't accept the deadline.

PBC offered Golden Boy the TV rights in Mexico and the U.K., where DAZN is popular. However, Golden Boy officials didn't respond by a noon PT deadline Friday to close the deal, sources said.

The proposed deal included a rematch clause, per sources, that guaranteed Charlo the option to secure an immediate return bout if he lost. DAZN would own the sole broadcast rights to the Charlo-Munguia 2, sources said.
Sure DAZN is popular un the UK, but they already pay a subscription and the Brits are making a big deal out of AJ vs Usyk II being a PPV so like they're going to pay for Mungo vs Charla? I think not. GBP knows the market and additionally they know Mexican TV for Mungo isn't doing shit either.
