I go to Eddie for boxing, I don't go to Eddie to get a guage on social development within oppressive societies.
I understand he's asked questions and he has to answer them. He admits he goes there because of the money but he tries to take the sting out of the reality by saying he's seen change within the society and also the society's attitude towards boxing.
Here goes Fast Eddie again speaking out of both sides of his mouth. Simply saying we stage there to get the most money for our fighters and our company is good enough. Don't try to pander and try to speak as if you remotely understand the societal norms or their mindset or as if you/company are impacting change in the sport there when all you are simply doing is taking the money.
Sports washing or not, I don't know for sure with all the politics.
Their human rights is certainly appalling, unless I'm mistaken. To be honest, America and the UK have also committed a huge amount of atrocities themselves.
Where do you draw that line? Should professional sportsmen be blamed for earning that money for their families and themselves? It's a debatable issue.
I'm all for fighters being able to retire after each fight. There's no doubt they'll be able to with the huge amount of oil money this country is able to offer. But do fans want fighters to retire early? Like Wilder retiring after only two loses? What about the rest of the hundreds of fighters out there barely able to pay for their training? Is it right to see only 2 fighters benefit? $2 million, $5 mil, $10 mil is not enough? Do soldiers risking their lives in the front line of battles even make a fifth of that?
