"Resume" is overrated thing in boxing

Disagree
resume is the only way to prove yourself and the best way to rate fighters.
only every once and a while is someone so dominate over lower competition like Roy Jones or young Mike Tyson where you can say for certainty ok they would have been legit at any point in history.
Guys like a crawford, they leave so many unanswered questions when his best wins are an older porter, undersized older gamboa and postol. Like ok he is skilled but how does he deal with an A level prime fighter?
Then you got the real bad hype jobs, the andrandes of the world in their damn 30s with a REALLY weak ass resume and everyone saying they can destroy a Canelo level opponent. give me a break, they have actively ducked the big fights if they have literally no B level wins in their whole career.Last edited by elfag; 07-09-2022, 10:40 AM.BodyBagz likes this.

It is perfectly possible to move up for the sake less competitive fights rather than more.
And resumes can be overrated because they largely don't mean much when some fighters like Canelo can get any fight they want and others like Andrade can barely get any. If everyone were forced to fight each other, then yea resumes would have much more meaning than they do now. And all fighters will look bad at some point even against bums or journeymen because of styles. Being able to pick any opponent you want allows you to pick styles that suit you even if the opponent themselves are highly ranked. That is also the reason why Mayweather and Canelo have almost never done manadatories like the other fighters who you say aren't as good have. And would you look at that - the fighters who never do mandatories always look amazing in their fights.
And while we're on the topic, Mayweather who is supposedly the greatest fighter of all time has never once beaten an elite fighter in their prime at their best weight and yes that includes Corrales. He's an extremely unproven fighter when measured by that standard. But his resume can easily give the illusion he's fought primed elite fighters if you don't dissect it.
So yea resumes can definitely be overrated which is why you have to also include the eye test.
So Canelo-Andrande never happened but you put the blame on Canelo who had fought GGG while Andrande did what exactly? He didnt do ****, he could have chased GGG if canelo wouldnt have fought him. He could have chased Bivol if canelo wont fought him. He could have unified 168 if canelo wont fight him.
Do SOMETHING to make the public DEMAND the Andrande-Canelo fight. Canelo has so many options he cant fight everyone. Andrande thinks the star is supposed to just come to him? he can just sit around and fight bums in risk adverse fights protecting his 0 and made demands the champ comes to him...
Charlo and Andrande coudl fight each other. All these guys cry nobody will fight them there are multiple of them in the same division, hey sherlock go fight each other then.BodyBagz likes this.

If you say "Canelo is likely the better fighter of the two because he has the much better resume" - then that's not really true. That statement implies the opportunity to get the same quality of opposition was mostly equal and was primarily delineated by skill, which it wasn't.
You could then say "well Canelo is the more proven fighter because of his resume" - This would be true but it still doesn't mean much since Canelo's picks his own opponents and doesn't do mandos - unless you count Yildrim for which I believe WBC retracted the claim he was a mandatory. So you mean to tell me a guy who makes tens of millions of dollars a fight picks opponents who are unlikely to interrupt that revenue stream? how shocking.
"Oh but he fought Bivol, so he does fight challenging opponents?
Except that he could have fought a fighter who was more proven as a challenge, had more notoriety and for more money in a higher profile fight but chose not to. And given Canelo's recent history, there's nothing there to indicate he likes to seek out the consensus most challenging opponents and doesn't care about money or notoriety but all of a sudden now that's the case? It's inconsistent with his recent behavior in the last few years and was more likely just a cherry pick gone wrong.
And let's not get in to how resumes hide gift decisions and judging. In light of these facts, I'm simply saying yes resumes can be overrated. Simple minded people won't take the time properly analyze each fight on a resume. However much Andrade has or hasn't done is irrelevant to these facts regarding the comparison between their resumes.

Bud is more what people think he can do whilst nel o is what he has done. If bud did beat nel o at 168, then that's part of buds resume. But bud would never be favourite because of his resume is poor. Nel o was favourute against bivol as his resume is good. If bud had a fantastic resume in a fantasy world he might be favourite against nelo
Resume is the be all and end all when it comes to greatnessLast edited by hugh grant; 07-11-2022, 05:30 AM.
