but I think governing bodies could still step in and say anyone who is in the mandatory spot isn’t allowed to have a rematch clause put on them

If it’s a voluntary then I don’t mind too much.
Yeah I f***ing hate the mandatory ones. They should certainly be banned.

Rematch clauses have always been a thing or at least for a while but this recent phenomenon of having a rematch clause for every fight is ridiculous.
It’s crazy isn’t it, it feels like every major fight has one now. I can’t even remember when this rematch clause sh** started.

One of the things that made boxing great were rematches.

They've been around for decades but they were just used sparingly.

Now a days, it's rare to not have one for a world title fight.

Not forced rematches though. The whole point of a rematch is what we want to see it again. We wanted to see Gatti-Ward again, do we wanna see Haney-Kambosos again?

Did Mosley have one in the contract vs Winky Wright? That rings a bell to me. I remember thinking that rematch was pointless.

I'm in the minority, and I'm biased. I like them when they provide an insurance for fighter's that I like, in case of slip ups. For example in the Whyte v Povetkin fight, and Joshua v Ruiz fight. However, I was fuming at there being rematch clauses in the Warrington v Lara and Fury v Wilder 2nd fight. Oh and when I found out there was a rematch clasue in the Riakpore v Jumah fight I was fuming, as I know Jumah personally, and felt like it trapped in. Basically I like them when they suit me

Well, when you can finance boxing exhibitions. You can change the world.

                      Yes definitely for mandtorys.

Its not just champions doing it now tho. Dillian whyte had the one with povetkin and wallin (even tho that one fell through) in sure both of those were eliminators too. So a win over the A side means they can't progress
