Hearn doesn't believe Benn is ready, and rightfully so. Benn needs more seasoning. He's also trying to build Benn into a star, and fighting Ennis doesn't necessarily get him closer to that when Ennis doesn't have much of a profile himself. Ennis may have less of a profile than when Spence fought Brook. If a sanctioning body decided to make Benn/Ennis a title fight, I think Hearn would take it.
Additionally, Ennis is PBC-adjacent, so he has a better chance at getting Thurman/Garcia/Stanionis/Crowley than Benn.

There's the TV network divide. There's the way popular, highly regarded undefeated top level prospects rarely fight one another before a world title. Benn has no US popularity, Ennis has no UK popularity so financially it's not appealing. Ennis may have to take a paycut, would he want to do that for a fight that gets him no closer to a belt? It's not like it would prove much.
Most importantly, Hearn is not going to take that risk. I'm not sure any prompter would tbh, you have a guy who is already one of the top UK ticket sellers fighting nobodies, and you know that he's not really that good. You don't put him in with the best prospect/contender in the sport.Comment

This is the fight that should be made.
Nothing else that these two will do even comes close to fighting each other, other than fighting Virgil.
They keep fighting jobbers and journeymen and washed up men. All the while, shouting out Spence's name and on occasion, in silent, Bud's name.
Go fight each other, quit talking about the champions when you have no weight besides hardcore fans being hyped about your ability.Comment

It would 100% get him closer to the belt. The Ring magazine would undoubtedly push him to rankings near Spence and Bud. Which would undoubtedly get him closer to the championship belts. There's the TV network divide. Plus, UK fans travel extremely well. Nevada sounds like it's British when Fury fights or when Hatton traveled to fight Mayweather. It was essentially the O2 arena when those guys come out.
Benn could do himself massive favors traveling to the states, taking out Ennis (if he did) and then could realistically pull a Brook and force everyone to the UK to fight him post-Bud/Spence welterweight era.Last edited by F l i c k e r; 05-18-2022, 10:59 AM.Comment

totally agree. Boots drills Benn. Why are we rushing Benn. Give him another year of top 15 to tough opponents. The guy has potential but to pout him in with Ennis now would be crazy. Benn could be really good but needs more fundamental work. Plus Ennis may be at 154 as maybe will be Ortiz in a year.Comment
