Salute to Canelo for having taken the risk

I give him credit for taking this fight because Bivol was always a legit risk but I'm also glad he lost just because you and others like you were even considering he'd not only be competitive but possibly win against Usyk. Canelo is still a great fighter but he and his fans needed to be brought down a bit because the what ifs were getting out of hand.

Comonsense should tell you a more technical boxer at a higher weight class is a riskier move than fighters not as technically sound in a lower weight class. If you actually watch Bivol, Benavidez and Charlo fight and consider their opponents it's easy to arrive to this conclusion.

I gave props to him taking risks in another thread his resume is pretty impressive in today's world but this was definitely matchmaking gone wrong they didnt expect Bivol to beat him as easily as that

Agree to an extent. There was some cherry picking going on through out his run,not to mention aging GGG out a little....but yea,what Canelo has/attempted to do really has been beneficial to our sport and should be commended more than ridiculed. There's weight classes for a reason and it eventually caught up to him.

A very measured and accurate take. I have rooted against Canelo more than I've rooted for him in fights. He and his team have used his tremendous amount of leverage to their advantage at times and I've felt the judges have been very kind to him as well. With all of that, he still takes on challenges and wants to achieve great feats.

Jermell Charlo, Demetrius Andrade, David Benavidez and so many more continue to fight marginal competition and hope for a payday without earning it.

Not sure who is more annoying, the Canelo fanboys or the Canelo haters.

Ha ha calm down dude this is just for fun nothing to do with me or you. Bivol is more of a technical boxer than Benavidez or Charlo if you know about boxing styles you know that is true. Another fact is going up in weight class against an unbeaten fighter is always a risk. As for those "bigger fights" they could still happen. What were his odds against Benavidez or Charlo?

He reached for a high goal and couldn't obtain it.

If Lomachenko went from p4p #1 after clearly winning 4-5 rounds vs. a much bigger Teofimo, and losing 7 close ones, to off the top 5, then certainly Canelo gets knocked off the list for getting so completely and utterly humiliated by Bivol, who he probably outweighed. Bivol said he was 183 last night. Teo had a good 15lbs on Loma.

I respect him for that, although I believe a lot of disrespect was shown to Bivol leading up to this fight. Many Canelo fans were calling him absolute garbage 6 months ago and say how dare he ask for a Canelo fight, he needs to stop ducking Ramirez. And then you had guys like Ellie Seckbach making 1000 videos a day interviewing pro boxers saying Bivol has no chance. On top of that he was a 5 to 1 underdog.

I always believed Bivol was the real deal, a huge step up from the guys Canelo fought at 168. Do you think Canelo felt this too or do you think he thought he'd be another euro stifff just like everyone was saying?
