These guys are literally putting their lives on the line, every time they catch a clean punch to the skull...they deserve as much as they can get from the promoter.
Now, a Tony Harrison, tap tap, don't hurt me, okay pay that guy minimum wage. But these guys deserve to get paid!

How elitist can a person be? All of these UFC fighters who risk their lives and long-term health every time they fight should be ashamed of themselves for putting their own interests ahead of the Collective. Fighters need to make money as fast as possible for their families because every night out could be their last in the sport. What is hard to understand about this? Does the UFC, this wonderful family league, offer a pension to its fighters? Nope. Does it even offer long-term health insurance coverage for them? Nope.Comment

So let's get this straight:
The ones from the bottom of society, ******s, working class areas, traveller sites, council estates, who have few options for a comfortable existence but to hope to be lucky enough to "make it" in sports are 'overpaid', but somehow, administrators, chief executives, promoters, sponsors, and every other suit involved in sports, and from far more comfortable backgrounds that ensure they will NEVER have to physically labour to survive are not?
I see this argument in every sport, but you can quadruple my contempt for its emergence in boxing where you have to get your skull caved in.
**** OFF is my answer.Comment

In the last few years, the UFC and company president Dana White have come under fire with respect to fighter pay. Numerous MMA combatants have complained about the tremendous gap between the revenue generated by the UFC and the amount of money their fighters are paid.

Owners complaining about fighter pay is really rich stuff and is the same old same old that’s been employed since Curt Flood contested the reserve clause in the MLB, which was the beginning of player free agency. The MLB didn’t fold, the NFL and the NBA are all doing fine sharing a bigger piece of the revenue with the people who are the people you and I pay to see perform. Nobody’s paying to see the owners, regardless of what Dana White might think. The internet says Dana’s worth is upwards of $500 million and earns $20 m’s a year. Would he be less respectable if he was only worth $250 million and had spread the other $250 amongst the athletes?

This is completely true - the demand for content across all these new platforms has led to promoters getting carte blanche. They can pay their guys a million dollars to fight soft touches because they have exclusive agreements and total control over what content airs on the platform.
UFC "underpaying" their fights is what allows them to build absolutely stacked cards multiple times a month - guys can't make any money fighting soft touches, so they have to take 50-50 fights most of the time. Just like the sub-135 guys still have to in boxing.Comment
