Other sports (rugby league and union, horse racing, motorsport, athletics, etc.); possibly an alien concept on this forum, culture (music, comedy, plays, musicals, opera, ballet, am drams etc.); the outdoors, and lastly pubs, clubs, bars. The UK has **** to do.Comment

I'm not sure about that. I'm an American fight fan and I absolutely am aware of Whyte's drawing power, his heart and his improving skill. Any fan who isn't aware is a casual and should educate themselves before talking trash. Also, I've seen derogatory references to Whyte, calling him "Shyte" which is British, which leads me to believe that even some British fans don't like or appreciate him.
Indeed. I think most of the criticism is coming from Americans who only understand their market. Whyte wouldn't sell in the States, so they think he mustn't be a draw anywhere else either and obviously Fury is a name over there.
They might have a point if the money was coming from America. But it's not and Fury vs pretty much anybody except AJ, Whyte or possibly Usyk isn't a stadium fight in the UK either. The domestic rivalry is what's selling the fight. Brits love a big fight between British rivals that detest each other.
Put another way, if Whyte was as unimportant as some posters are suggesting, Warren wouldn't be ****ing on about his lack of engagement in the promotion of the fight.Comment

No, you don't get it.
Neither makes this money. Neither sells these tickets without the other.
Well at least without AJ/Usyk.
This is a mega fight because of both of them TOGETHER.
Neither Whyte NOR Fury can sell this many tickets without the other.
Not sure why that's difficult to understand.Comment

When people flock to see Fury AND Whyte ?!?!?
IN the same ring at the same time ?!?!?!?
I guess those other attractions can't compare.Comment

That logic only works if you think one basketball team gets paid 4 times what their opponents get paid.
It's one team v the other. You need both teams to have a game.
In boxing Fury individually gets paid multiples of his team. More than Sugar Hill, more than everyone else in his team. Same as LeBron. They're the key men in the team. That's the analogy.
Yes boxing is unusual in that the opposition team can be on substantially less money - but not when you get to the top 5 or so fighters. 80/20 is outrageous when this fight is selling out 94k tickets because it's two big fighters colliding in the ring. It's the matchup that's selling out - not the individuals.Last edited by Toffee; 04-15-2022, 10:58 PM.Comment

I wonder whether Americans don't get it, because they have college sports with big followings.
Want to know why college sports and hick town teams have such big followings? Because there's nothing to do in the majority of the US!
In the UK they'd have something else to do rather than watch second and third rate sport.Comment
