Comments Thread For: Hearn: Canelo is Facing, In My Opinion, The Best 175-Pounder in The World

Promoter Eddie Hearn believes Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez is facing the best boxer in the light heavyweight division, WBA world champion Dmitry Bivol. Canelo will challenge Bivol on May 7 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

And this is where it’s obvious that promoters really try to take fans for idiots. Like when Oscar said Liam Smith was the best 154 pounder champion at the time Canelo faced him. Yes Bivol is a dangerous fighter and can pose problems for Canelo, but everyone who follows boxing knows he’s not considered to be the best in that weight class. Beterbiev is clearly #1 right now and would be the most dangerous fight for Canelo to take in that division.

There are a lot of interesting fights to make at 168 lbs and 175 lbs. I hope Beterbiev vs Smith Jr comes together soon, as expected. So, aside from the winner of that (likely Beterbiev), Benavidez Jr. (presuming he handles Lemieux and, potentially, Plant), Jermall, and Zurdo Ramirez are all intriguing fights for Canelo after the GGG bout. Of course, boxing being the theater of the unexpected, who knows how it will all turn out. Which is why we tune in.

IF Canelo is fighting Bivol without stipulations, I don't care if Bivol is considered 1,2,or 3 at LH. It's still a major step up for Alvarez and you have to give the man kudos for taking on a legit LH champ. I see this fight in Bivol's favor IF there aren't any hidden weight clauses. This will be three world champs in a row the man has faced. My only fault with his picks are none of his opponents are known as power punchers. But ,who of out of any top contenders/champions are facing power punchers?I was actually surprised when they named Bivol as an opponent. I think Canelo could lose this fight.

Beterbiev is the lineal champion and he has two of the alphabet belts. Eddie's opinion is irrelevant.

Bivol is a sissy jab merchant mover. Canelo will just bully him and win by wide UD/TKO. Beterbiev is #1.

This should be a good fight, one I'm looking forward to. Bivol is very skilled, but I think Canelo will defeat him. While his recent run against champs is impressive, I feel like Alvarez is waiting out Beterbiev like he did with GGG, though. He can't do that with Jermall, Benavidez Jr., or Zurdo. He may still never face any of them, but getting an advantage on them due to age can't be the tactic.
