Looking at the scorecards Conlan wasn’t going to be leaving England with the titles unless he won the 12th.
    Yep

Had it gone 12 and Wood won the 12th, according to the cards it would have been a majority draw and Wood would keep his belt

i thought Conlan was a few points up even going into the 12th though, but it was getting closer

Good fighter, but ultimately that early knockdown swung the fight in his favour. His only hope in a rematch would be an early knockout, because Wood will keep coming.
      Hard to agree with that

you can’t use if’s and but’s when a fighter scores an excellent knockdown with a disguised shot. Conlan’s ability and timing landed that shot, if It took Wood rounds to recover, that’s on him.

If they had a rematch and Conlan landed similar shot again, it would have a similar effect.

Wood was trying to parry every shot in the first round, Conlan read it and switched it up top. It was Wood’s defensive predictability that got him dropped and Conlan’s ability to read it.

That’s boxing, you can’t start saying a fight would be different and dismiss a fighters good work after the fact.

after a frightening fall out of the ring in the 12th round,
Yea, he just fell out of the ring...?
Stop it! He was knocked TF out of the ring?!

Calling this one ridiculous diminishes how ridiculous some cards are. This one wasn't ridiculous.

Having him way ahead suggests people weren't scoring it.
I’d even go as far as saying some weren’t watching it either.

I'm impressed by Wood. Winning a fight where you have less natural talent, less skill and technique than your opponent is a hard task. Doing it after an early beating even harder.

A rematch would be interesting. For Conlan though if he tries to preserve his stamina a bit more, he loses some of his aggression and doesn't win rounds as clear. Would need just the right gameplan.

On another note, I kinda forgot Conlan was with TR. I remember when it was Crawford, Loma, Stevenson & Conlan all being promoted as TRs big four. & for a while it seemed like Conlan and Shakur were being built up simultaneously but then Conlan kinda just slipped to the wayside.
While Im happy Wood won, I think Conlan lost a lot of momemtum...he isnt a great puncher or speed demon like Shakur and he isn't that young either. He has been a pro for about 6 years now too. I don't think it is going to get much easier from Woods if he n he challenges for another title.

Wood would need to spend the camp learning how to defend that looping left hook. Now he knows about it and has time to prepare it would also make things interesting.

I had it 103 - 104 in Conlans favor going in to the 12th. Without the knockout it wouldve been a draw because Wood was taking the 12th I'm not sure how it couldve been scored any other way barring favoritism it was a good close fight IMO

Well, if he had a string of huge knockouts, I would agree. But Conlan simply doesn't have that power needed and that was the best punch he may have ever landed. It's unlikely, not impossible I agree, that he would land it like that again. Particularly coming off a brutal KO.

So I'd be more than willing to bet he doesn't land that hail Mary again and instead gets knocked out earlier.

Of course if he was in full health. Get well soon Michael! Rematch isn't something he should really be thinking about.

He was unconcious before he "fell" out of the ring...he would never have heard a count, let alone beaten one.
