I've even said that JMM is a tougher fight for Floyd than Cotto is because of Cotto's poor defense and stamina and his vulnerability for uppercuts. I think the only fighters at 147 that are a tougher fight for Floyd are Mosley (if he's not too past it or ring rusty) and Paul Williams (if he was still at the weight). I'm somewhat of a Cotto doubter and detractor while not liking Floyd at the same time, so that probably factors into my opinion.
JMM is just too small. Would you give JMM much of chance against Clottey or Cotto? I wouldn't

Sure I would. I think Clottey would be the easier of the two because he has less power than Cotto and JMM would be able to split his guard with that earmuff defense that Clottey uses. You have to remember that JMM put away the version of Casamayor who beat Corrales the second time in their third fight. Clottey doesn't really have that much power even though he is a big Welter combined with the fact that he isn't active enough.

I think Cotto would be the more dangerous fight than Clottey because he has better power than Clottey, but still a winnable fight for JMM because of Cotto's flaws like his bad stamina and not getting leverage on his punches when he isn't the aggressor. To be fair though, I'll see how they both do in their next fights before I make a solid prediction. We don't know how well JMM willl compete at Welter for sure until we see his fight against Floyd.

I think you massively under-rate Clottey and Cotto, and over-rate Marquez. Marquez is a great fighter, but he looked physically out of his depth even at Lightweight, and only won due to his superb skills and timing. And I think Cotto and Clottey are both far better than you give them credit for.

Of course you're entitled to your opinion, but Clottey and Cotto would both be huge favourites to beat Marquez.

If Marquez beats Mayweather, I'll revise my opinion, but I have rarely been so certain about the result of a major fight as I am about this one, although I do think Marquez has enough skills to make it a reasonably competitive fight against Mayweather, who is not a big Welterweight. And I think it'll be a good and very watchable fight in its way, due to them both being such skilful and intelligent fighters, and due to the fact that both of them are good at adjusting to their opponents' styles mid-fight.

Clottey is recognised as the #3 Welterweight at the moment, and Welterweight is Floyd's weight class. His loss to Cotto was extremely close and fairly controversial, and it solidified his ranking as #3. Other then the Cotto/Pac winner or Mosley, there is no more credible fight for him than Clottey. And Clottey would be the massive favourite to beat Marquez easily.

And Marquez's best fights were also controversial losses, in his case, to Pac.
Trying to break through the walls of an non objective nuthugger is impossible Dave. They only see what they want to see and will make an excuse for everything else. This is the here4 and now. Both are top fighters at 147. Outside of Cotto Shane would draw the most money for Floyd in this division. Make the damn fight already.

As overrated as I believe Cotto is, I think Clottey is even more so. The dude basically quit fighting because of a peddy hand injury against Margarito and used that lame excuse after the fight was over with in the post-fight interview. Of course Margarito is huge compared to JMM, but there are some other opponents I can think of that Clottey has looked pedestrian against. He looked like his usual inactive self against Felix Flores on VS, and Flores was journeyman level.

People automatically discounting JMM's chances against Cotto don't know how to analyze match up. JMM has got the best uppercuts in boxing P4P and Cotto is the worst P4P at defending against them.
