I'm pretty sure that testing positive for PEDs is a legit reason for Golden Boy to invalidate their agreement with Kovalev.

Shoot, it would be cool if he stayed active for one last run and fought 3 times in a year and then 2 the following year with the 2nd being for the world title.

Then again, a title shot after too many vodka shots is a big ask.
Okolie? Surely he wins that one, too?

If a Middleweight who came up from 147 pounds originally knocks you out and you are a Light Heavyweight? Ummmm time to hang them up buddy!

I liked watching Kovalev when he was the relentless Krusher. I feel like the Canelo loss took a tremendous toll on his career and perception. He lost to Canelo, whom granted is a great fighter, but the fight should have been Kovalev's. It was his division. He lost in bad fashion too instead of having a spirited loss. I still like him and hope he does well in what will presumably be his last run.

I don't know, man... on a second thought, his punch resistance may be gone forever, so nothing is certain for the Krusher at this stage.

****** Kovalev was such a good fighter, even looked technically great vs Canelo in his loss.

                    His problem is his alcoholism.

I know it was that because I was a pretty good athlete and then allowed myself to go downhill due to regular alcohol consumption and intoxication. I played baseball, I remember at 16, it started and it happened very fast. I was the fastest in my team, no one beat me in team sprinting. I batted lead-off. Then the amazing thing happened, with months of getting drunk, I became the absolute slowest in the team. Slower than this fat kid in the team. But I looked in shape. It was the alcohol. I also became more powerful, but that was it. I was moved from the infield to the outfield.

When I stopped drinking and started running as an adult, trying to run 1.5miles for sheriff’s dept, my goodness, it was awful. Just in my 20s. It was the alcohol. I had to stop drinking altogether. Took me a long time to finally run those 4 laps without complete exhaustion. Running was even worse because I moved to Utah where it’s high altitude. So alcohol plus that, it was rough.

Anyway, it doesn’t look like Kovalev ever stopped. Every time he is off-camp there is some story of him getting drunk. You can’t do that as a pro athlete. If he is serious about this run, he needs to stop the BS drinking first, become 100% healthy, then start looking for an opponent and start training. He can’t just stop drinking, train for 4-8 weeks and go back to getting drunk again after a fight, win or lose.

Choose, boxing or drinking. If you want to drink, just retire. I have like a year without drinking and I am still feeling the effects, I don’t even play any sports anymore. I just shoot baskets, go to the batting cage, hit the heavy bag, and run, none for competition, just personal fitness. For an athlete at the top level of sports, these effects are even more noticeable, I know it. He definitely feels the effects of alcohol, he isn’t a robot.

Great fighter, but messed up his own career with that poison. Drinking is legal, but it’s poison. You are voluntarily shutting down your own body. Get clean and go after that title. If you don’t want to get clean, just retire. He could do it, but needs to cut the BS out.
