Assine comment. He was 19 f'ing years old when he fought at 147. Lots of guys get bigger as they get older (though not all of them piss hot like Canelo did). It's not like Canelo wasn't on an even playing field weight-wise when he fought Kovalev. What WASN'T an even playing field was the fact that Kovalev had just taken an absolute beating 2 months prior and sold his soul to take the fight just 2 months later. Even a fresh Kovalev was far from being in his prime (a prime Kovalev beats Canelo) any longer anyway. Putting it mildly he doesn't have the best reputation (including some not so flattering sparring stories from my local boxing gym as he lives down here) but it's his life and career and he's still a multiple time World Champion and it's really not your place to tell him to hang up his gloves now is it? It's not like he's the first guy in boxing or sports to frig up his career.

Edit: And no I'm not saying this ends well lol I don't see how him stepping up to younger guys who hit harder at this point in his life/career is a good move for whatever brain cells he has left but again who am I to tell him not to try?

I like Kovalev as a fighter but he’s shot shot at this point. I’m thinking this ends poorly.

He doesn't have another title run in him.

He's shot (and been shot), and he's gotten KOd at LHW by guys not known for their power.
But then again, CW is absolutely atrocious now. Quick, name a CW contender besides Breidis who's not related to the Canelo saga (Makabu/Mchunu)

If he cannot handle body shots from a Alvarez, who started his resume way smaller than Krusher at 154, then I am of the opinion he is not handling body shots from fighters naturally bigger than him. I am kind of counting him out completely. This is a money grab, in my opinion. He still has a name and the CW needs division needs excitement as opposed to LHW which has established stars who will not waste time with Kovalev. Someone will step up and get him in a big money fight and allow him to cash out.

                  Krusher just nothing now.

I remember when he was p4p in lists and one of the most feared boxers around.

The guy who outboxed Bhop (ancient but still) cerebrally and was great at distance control is long gone.

Kovalev is done but I have hella respect for him. He never made excuses to not fight anybody unlike GGG when they were both getting publicity. Props to Kovalev although Ward exposed him.

I could totally see that, but maybe the weight will help him handle the body shots better
