In his prime he was an absolute beast. Nobody ever had any chance. The anticipation of a GGG fight, you just absolutely knew the opponent was going to get smashed. How would that version stack up against a Prime Marvin Hagler.
To all the G haters out there ....

All the golovkin hate is from moronic carnelo fans who call him a bum yet needed two tries to get a victory over that "bum". And even then the second fight was closeComment

I absolutely despised the GGG brigade pre-Brook. The p4p #1 talk irked me as I'd never seen a guy get anointed without actually fighting someone half way decent or at least going through a couple of divisions, so that phase was very annoying.
With that said, I've become a big fan since Brook and the competition he's had since. He proved he is a HOFer over that run of fights. He's the type of fighter who is never going to dominate at top level, but there are very few who can. He was never a #1 p4p type fighter, but he is a handful for any 160-168lber in history. Very subtle but good skills, an elite jab, elite chin, elite stamina, very damaging punch power.
My gut feeling is Hagler would have too much for him, but it's a bloody bath of a fight.Comment

I remember the stories of him beating up heavyweights up there in Big Bear... I believed (and still) most of it. He broke George Groves rib in sparring within one round I believe, George was adviced to wear body protection beforehand. That strength at 160 has always been a mystery to me. And I thought Arthur Abraham was the strongest MW I personally witnessed.I absolutely despised the GGG brigade pre-Brook. He was a product of the HBO machine.
He was the boogeyman looking great against guys that were on house arrest and lower ranked guys.
When he stepped up to Jacobs and Canelo he looked like a good fighter but nothing we hadn’t seen before.
It’s a fact that Canelo owns GGG’s legacy, MW straps, and 0 for all time. A third fight and a KO win would be the cherry on top but not necessary.Comment

Pretty damned good fighter but not Hagler good. Taking that fight with Andre Ward would have benefited him greatly resume wise.Comment

Prime GGG was criminally avoided. By the time he got the career defining fights he was clearly past his peak. He still beat Canelo at least once and probably twice IMO.Comment

Hagler and Monzon stand alone in the great middleweight debate.
Disclaimer- I consider a prime SRR a welterweight before someone pulls me up on his omission.Comment

GGG was great fighter between 2013-2018. His peak was 2015-2016. ATG jab, decent speed, boxing and brawling ability, underrated defensive skills, granite chin etc..
He looked ordinary against Jacobs and Canelo because they are elite fighters too. Jacobs was at his prime, Canelo was a bit drained but at his physical prime.Comment
