Comments Thread For: Shawn Porter Stands By, Clarifies 'Overrated' Remark on Jaron Ennis

Shawn Porter is all about abiding by a philosophy of showing, not telling. The former welterweight titleholder recently caused a furor on social media after comments he made about contender Jaron 'Boots' Ennis were widely disseminated. On his eponymous podcast, The Porter Way Podcast, Porter stated that Philadelphia-based Ennis, regarded as a rising force within the 147-pound ranks, was "overrated" in the sense that certain fans were going overboard with their praise.

Porter speaks the unvarnished truth, and thank god that he does. Until Ennis wins against the top fighters at welterweight, all this overboard fan talk is nothing but talk. Once again, thank god that Porter has brought this matter to the attention of the boxing scene (and especially that he won't retract his words).

Nothing to disagree with. Similar thing is happening with some other boxers, for example with Fury (although he is far more proven than Ennis).

I agree with Shawn. Let's let the fights happen. Let's see him down 3-4 rounds against a top guy and come back. Let's see how he handles adversity in the ring. Let's see what he does when the game plan is not working. I think he will be a star but we need to see some things first.

I'm in full support with Shawn Porter here. Ennis has about 28 fights and none are top class. Obviously the word out there is that he is learning as well and coming up slowly.

Till he fights those actual top fights and look good in them, he is overrated...

SSP is not wrong. But before everyone chews the face off him, he's entitled to give an opinion like everyone else. And he still believes that Ennis will be that guy. And i agree. He's a great talent. He just had a bit to go to transition to an elite fighter. And there's nothing wrong with that. Give the guy time.

He needs his face chewed off! Shawn is the guy who will give Sebastian Formella, who was 22-0 at the time, a shot at him, but not Boots Ennis, who was 25-0 at the time, then say "We need to see him in with the Top Guys!" I usually agree with you, but not this time! F--K Shawn Porter!
