Gayweather carefully picked his opponents

Pacquiao - fought him 5/6 years too late, after being brutally KO'd by Marquez
Cotto - Had already been KO'd by Margarito and Pac. Both beat him in more impressive manner.
Canelo - Young, green
Corrales - Corrales was going to go to jail, had that looming over his head before the fight.
Hatton - Fought Hatton at 147 where he wasn't any good, Pac beat Hatton more impressively
De La Hoya - DLH was robbed, Gayweather didn't want the rematch
Marquez - Paid off Marquez to so Gayweather could have a weight advantage
Judah - LMAO, Judah had literally just lost to Baldomir before he fought Fraud
Hernandez - Hernandez was at the end of his career, not in his prime anymore.

Good wins but none of those guys were all time great fighters.

What all-time greats really wanted to face Floyd Mayweather at his peak? What makes a all-time great fighter? For me it is a champion, who has made multiple defenses against other world class to elite level fighters. Fighters like Roy Jones Junior, Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao are a level above all-time greats.

Very rarely do two all time greats at their peak face off. The fights most of the time, happens somewhere down the line.

When Mike Tyson fought Holyfield, neither of them were at their peak.

Mayweather was the more eroded fighter by the time he fought Pacquiao, he beat Pacquiao with very little physicality just skill 'Mayweather had always been a extremely strong fighter physically, but that aspect of his game has decreased by that stage'.

How can someone that's 22 have as much ring experience as a 36 year old? You adding in Gayweather's amateur experience as well? Canelo never had an amateur career, or at least one as extensive as Gayweather's. Gayweather had 92 amateur fights (some being international competing in the Olympics and medaling) and 44 pro fights to Canelo's very limited "amateur fights", before turning 15 years old. Canelo, who turned pro at 15, his first 22-25 pro fights are basically his amateur experience. All of them being in Mexico I might add.

Canelo by the age of 22 was fighting Austin Trout and Gayweather.

Gayweather at the age of 22 was fighting Carlos Rios (who?) and Justin Juuko. No way would Gayweather have fought 1999 versions of Tszyu, Whitaker, Mosley, De la Hoya or Trinidad. He didn't even wan to fight Paul Spadafora at the time, after Spadafora worked him in that sparring session.

Experience sometimes is overrated. Canelo Alvarez had big fights, coming into the Mayweather fight.

People speak about experience in boxing, as if it is the same as a airline pilot flying a plane.

Canelo Alvarez had over 40 fights, that is a lot of experience. Plus he was physically ascending.

Mayweather even though he was not in his peak, beat Alvarez in both physically and technically.

I never saw Alvarez calling for a rematch, not very strongly anyway.

Prime years is referring to when an athlete is at the peak of his/her ability withing their sport......That being said........you are convinced that Canelo was better in 2013 than he is today?.....lol. And Manny beat out Floyd 3 out 4 years for Fighter of the year from 2006-2009. Around the time people actually was calling for the fight originally. Mayweather fought him 6 years later....
