Agree with most here, definitely faster in real life. I remember going to a Hatton fight back in the day, I think Ricky was known to have pretty fast hands, but nothing like elite speed. I was shocked at how quick his left hand was, it was blistering and he closed the distance so quick. I knew after that night he would reach the top, this was in the WBU days.

Ringside they seem superhuman at times, with their speed, power and standing up to the punches they are hit with.

Then you realise how human they are when their sweat, blood and snot lands on you.

I box myself, it is definitely faster in person. There are no slow guys in the top 20, trust me. People who say guys like George Foreman or Joe Joyce are slow, have never stopped to consider how do they land their shots?

Speed is one thing, timing is another, a combination of the two......

When you put it like this

being a judge is harder than it looks

imagine scoring a fight between speed demons

                Nice thought provoking thread!

Been to a couple local live events, faster in real life but dont always have a good angle of the ring/seats in my experience. Feel like I miss **** when you are there.

True, we are often too hard on the judges in close fights when our favorite does not win.

Another thing is that being in a boxing match you know when you are getting "hit" as in, the guy landed a "punch" according to the judges, but you REALLY didn't get hit at all, it was just a grazing punch that did no damage.

Reason I bring this up is I have often seen people judge fights based on compubox and we know that system is completely unreliable, as pitty pat punches don't have the same impact as one ****er of a counter for example.

I am in the minority or the only one that thinks fighters are much slower when you're sitting ringside. The TV definitely makes the fighters much faster than they are, for me at least.

But you can do something simple you can watch a fight on TV or showtime and then from somebody's camera inside the arena. Watch Floyd Mayweather vs Maidana 1 filmed from somebody inside the arena

Then watch it on showtime here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYvOC7MBuUw

The speed difference is like day and night
