He is the WBC world champion. That’s all the WBC owe him, other than the usual ‘rights’ a boxer has (appeals, etc). If the WBC create another separate championship, that’s none of Haney’s business. He was happy to accept at the time knowing the situation, and that’s the easiest and probably most solid defence the WBC will have
Can Haney sue the wbc?

Yeah, but it was through no fault on Haney's part. He did what he was supposed to do for "realness" and legitimacy in going the Lomachenko route.
People dodge mandatories when it's a position of power, that's modern day boxing.
Floyd fought how many mandatories in his career? I don't even like the idea of mandatories in the first place.
Lomachenko deserves to be criticized for accepting the Franchise nonsense.
None of it changes the fact that Haney's belt is as far away from "real" as could be.
That's why in my original post I said that it annoys me that Haney is being disrespected for this.Last edited by ShoulderRoll; 12-27-2021, 01:41 PM.Comment

I don't care who's fault it is mate. He tried to fight Lomachenko, I get that. But he didn't.
You don't get to be a champion because someone didn't fight you.
Call it disrespect, call it whatever, I don't care. All that matters is the fact that Devin Haney is not a real world champion.Comment

I would argue that the fact that Top Rank completely froze Haney out matters just as much, if not more. By asking for Franchise Champion status they ensured that Devin can never force a fight against Lomachenko, or Teofimo, or now Kambosos.

But one rarely sees the same energy directed towards Top Rank that is directed towards Haney.Comment

I'd be suprised if there's barely anyone who agrees with the WBC Franchise nonsense. But that's Boxing, they've been slowly but surely adding belts since the 1970's. Not the first won't be the last. The WBA Super nonsense was the same thing, today it's accetped as normal. It's no different.

None of this is relevant.
Did Haney win his title? No. Therefore he's not a real champion.
The who, what's, why's and if's don't make any difference to that fact.
It's not fair, but life isn't fair unfortunately.
Floyd was a 13 time world champion and I don't think had a single mandaotry defense in his entire career. Manny Pacquaio similar if not the same.
That's boxing.Comment

The WBA super nonsense is not seen as normal anymore, the Association of Boxing Commissions finally told them to clean up their act. Hopefully the ABC will focus on the WBC sometime soon as well.

Yes, it's true that Haney didn't win his title. But this is what everyone seems to be turning into the main narrative out of all this, which is wrong. The negative energy that Devin has received should be equally directed to Top Rank and the WBC but I don't see that happening. Which I why I speak on it.Comment

Well I don't know, it's been considered normal for years.

I don't agree with Top Rank's nonsense either. Or the WBC's.
And it's no fault of Haney that he has a fake belt. But that doesn't stop the belt being fake.Last edited by IronDanHamza; 12-27-2021, 03:57 PM.Comment

- - Seems U and he ought be suing U Daddies fer making U sissies.
Well, he at least tried to get the belt legitimately by putting himself in position to be #1 contender to Lomachenko.
Seems to me more of the disrespect that Haney is getting should be directed towards Lomachenko's team for dropping the belt and freezing Devin out of the picture entirely.Comment
