Comments Thread For: Luis Ortiz: I Don't Know Why Other Heavyweights Avoid Me

Staying ready for any opportunity has long ago become a way of life for Luis Ortiz. Sadly, they have been few and far between for the Cuban southpaw who--even in middle age--remains a relevant contender.

    High risk, low reward.

    -He doesn't speak English
-Is Cuban, not Mexican or Puerto Rican, meaning his potential for a fanbase among Spanish-speaking Americans is much smaller
-If you beat him, nobody will give you credit because he's fat and old
-If he beats you, again, he's fat and old
-He's got a lot of skill and knockout power
-Has tested positive before, meaning he could be a risk to cheat again and/or get a fight axed because of another positive

Take short money to fight a fat old man that might cheat and/or simply whoop your ass straight up? Most fighters are going to say, "no thanks" to that.

      Covered almost everything.

I’m guessing when he says other HWs, he’s either forgotten about AJ, or simply discounts him because he didn’t want a fight at 5 and a half weeks notice.

But, AJ is at least a HW who appeared to want him, and as others have said, Ortiz could genuinely be sat as undisputed champion by now had he agreed.

Ortiz already had a Wilder rematch in his back pocket when he turned down the Joshua fight. It's not like he turned down a title shot to fight a bum, he turned down a title shot to face the other champion because he wanted revenge. He got hit with that Saiyan pride. Took the harder fight and got KTFO again.

          Did he F!
Rematchroom signed Ortiz for Aj until Mcracken & the team took one look & said nah, no way, nope, uh uhh, noooo.
Ortiz begged for the Aj fight but pbc had Ortiz already lined up for Wilder 2 to line they're own pockets. The Dazn Wilder offer forced pbc to match the offer so they needed in house.

Like you said about Aj, appeared.
Looks in his case are very deceiving, look closer & you'll see 4 of 6 were 38-41 year's old and shot before Usyk, it's no coincidence the last 2 he boxed of his own generation both beat him. Lost 2 in 4, he doesn't deserve another shot.

Denying us undesputed for the 3rd time. 2018 ducked Wilder, 2019 blocked Wilder Ruiz with Rematchroom clauses, 2021 blocked Fury Usyk with Rematchroom clauses.

Your not 2 times if it's only half time.

Was it really the harder fight? both fights he absolutely bossed it he just got lazy tired and complacent. He would have earned double the money he was getting paid to fight Wilder and for more belts. He should keep quiet now he has no one to blame now but himself. Who exactly is ducking him?

Not quite how you're making it sound, he had two abysmal performances against Dave Allen and Malik Scott then pissed hot and got removed from the WBA/O (can't remember) rankings no one was scared of Ortiz, PBC have done a good job of making an absolute pudding who's accomplished nothing as an amateur or pro seem like a boogeyman.
