Comments Thread For: Amanda Serrano on Katie Taylor: That's The Mega Fight That Will Blow Off The Roof

The seven-division titlist reached a point during fight week where any conversation regarding Ireland's Taylor (20-0, 6KOs) would be immediately shut down. Serrano did not want to give Madrid's Gutierrez (14-2, 5KOs) anything but her undivided attention ahead of their lightweight fight this past Saturday as the co-feature of a Showtime Pay-Per-View from AMALIE Arena in Tampa.

I look forward to it, but I can think of no better fight for which women’s boxing can finally stop being patronised by the boxing orgs and have their fights increased 12 rds x 3 mins.

It’s a fallacy to believe that they aren’t fit enough to perform for 36 mins, and this is the kind of fight where we need to have the chance of a KO to increase the spectacle to epic proportions

I'm down with 3 min rounds for that fight but not 12 rds keep it 10 maybe even bring it down to 9.

I think it's been done. Didn't Marlene Esparza ask for 3 minute rounds in one of her title fights and the sanctioning body agreed?

Is that right? I didn’t know that; love to see it across the board

The thing is women can match men stride-for-stride in stamina, and at the very top level, elite female athletes are proper specimens.

I’m not saying either Taylor or Serrano would still be standing if, e.g., Inoue landed flush on them, but ffs, women can run marathons in about 2 hrs, I’m sure female boxers are good for 12 rounds of boxing

She fought both Samantha Salazar (2017) and Siniesa Estrada (2019) with 3 minute rounds. She's been a big advocate of it but the WBC has been vocal in it's opposition. I think it's a matter of the sanctioning body overseeing the fight (whether that be a belt or a commission or both) and the fighters themselves to agree to the 3 minute rounds in order for it to happen. It's not common but has been done before.

Serrano vs Taylor is a fight to look forward to. I'll take Serrano in the 9th.

That’d be awesome because, contrary to numerous posters here, I think that’s the biggest obstacle to the women’s game getting high KO percentages.

I predict no knockdowns our knockouts.
